Beryl's 12 bird sachet, phawww

Recommended Posts

Well, my sachet arrived today :D

I re-read the instructions and it said that you might want to mix it up outside because it was a bit smelly. I did it in the kitchen.

OMG they weren't joking.

It absolutely reeked :vom::vom::vom::vom:

Worse than the stinky nettex.

It was all I could do to keep hold of my stomach contents.

After mixing, I gave each girlie the 1ml they needed.

They decided to share this with me by having a little shake - thanks girls - but they did get most of it down their beaks and they seemed to enjoy it.

I just hope it works.

Apparently it takes a week or so to work.

Fingers crossed.

Think I will be buying the oregostim of the avian stuff next time.

Best probiotic you can possibly get Luvachicken, and that's what is needed. It is a long term benefit because the bacteria will now be present in the whole flock and scratch feeding should transfer them to any newbies.

Oregostim is something else entirely. I remain totally unconvinced about its claimed benefits.

Not sure what you are trying to gain Chickabee? Is their general health poor? Is the egg quality or laying frequency down? Just good quality feed and plain fresh water are all ours get. Wormed regularly with Flubenvet. Stress kept to a minimum with plenty of space and an unbroken daily routine. This comprises of being let out of the coop as early as practical into the runs for at least two hours. Then free range for the rest of the day. Very small mixed corn treat after 4.00pm. Locked up at dusk. Poos picked regularly to minimise fly strike risk, which is highest this time of year. Regular inspections for pests. 'Chickens hate changes' is an important thing to remember.

Beryl's should be a one-off treatment. We've only treated ours once and that was 3 years ago.

Chickabee, it is very expensive especially if you use a 12 bird sachet just for 4 birds and the postage was expensive too.

It was a shame I couldn't have given it to someone else's chickens.

Beryl's should be a one-off treatment. We've only treated ours once and that was 3 years ago.

On the leaflet that came with it though, it did say you should use it every month.

It also showed a 6 bird sachet but I couldn't find that anywhere. I think it's a bit naughty advertising a product on their leaflet if they don't actually do it.

We had the 6 bird sachet. It will treat up to 10 they told me. If you read the instructions about dosage and contents there is a discrepancy which I queried. But we treated the problem birds and then one at random in every group.

'Expensive' is only relative to the money value you put on the bird, but it is a lot of money nevertheless. Why they say treat every month I don't know, because once the gut is populated that should be it. Unless they go onto antibiotics again of course.

The discrepancy was on the 6 bird pack Luvachicken. If I remember correctly the amount you were told to dose each one wasn't a 6th of the mixture, it was a 10th. When I queried it they said there was a wide margin and I was OK to treat 10, which I did. After about a week all the poos showed a dramatic improvement. Bottom washing was far less frequent (problem having Orpingtons).
