Valkyrie
We have just ordered a new cooker - Rangemaster and I've just seen that people have issues with the grill being too high (so much for my belated homework - my old one is a Belling which is on the verge of drawing it's own pension and being around 18 years old or so). Anyone on here have one and if so have you come across any problems?
Princess Leia
We've had a black Rangemaster Elan 110 for about 8 years and love it. On that, the grill is above the standard oven and below the hob. I'm 5ft 2 and DH is 6ft 5 and we both get on OK with it. Have never had any problems with it and have just last week replaced both grill elements with new ones - first thing it's needed (apart from cleaning )
Guest
I have the rangemaster classic 90cm. never had an issue with the grill .... in fact we love our rangemaster so much we are taking it with us when we move house. It is a lot of money but on Christmas day when you can fit the whole dinner in it you will be laughing at lesser mortals trying to cope with a regular cooker. Egluntyne
I've got a Rangemaster. 110 I think. I've had it for at least 10 years and get in well with it.
Valkyrie
Thankies folks. Just read a few complaints on a site about it and although when we looked at the cooker, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. My Belling one had adjustable shelving in the grill - this one is on a slider but then we always had the shelf on the lowest setting anyway. So yep, once again cheers for the feedback. It will be nice to have things cooking properly again. Must remember not to set it on a higher setting on one side and lower heat setting on the other! LOL!!! The Dogmother
I have a Leisure Range 90cm, very similar to the Rangemaster, and I love it! The grill is on a slider and I love it now that I have got used to how it adjusts.
Valkyrie
Cheers DM. All good to know. Like anything new it will probably take a bit of time to get the hang of it all. Not fussed with the little pan attached to the door - will remove that as my roasting pans are bigger and I think that just wastes the space (there is an option to remove it if you wish anyway), although it was an interesting idea but needs to be small so that it can clear the side of the oven when the door is opened. My Belling has a warming plate, so that will be missed, but can't have it all! One good thing is that by having all gas we saved about £200 or so. Seems most people go for combi - gas hob but electric cooker. With all the power cuts that is not an option here!
The Dogmother
I took off the pan on the door thingy too - can't see the point myself. The ovens cook at different speeds, and (as you say) it took some getting used to, but I really love it now.
Egluntyne
Would you believe it! My gas safety cut out thingummy bob wotsit on the right hand oven has failed! That will teach me to jinx something by saying how wonderful it is. Still it is fairly elderly, and not without hope.
The Dogmother
Goodness is that the solenoid gubbins? had one go once and it wasn't too expensive to fix.
Egluntyne
Could be. What ever it is, it is all Valkyrie's fault! Door a bit wobbly too, so that is going to have some new hinges and a new catch.
Valkyrie
Oi Eggers!!!! Yeah but no but yeah but no but it's no way my fault yeah! Our current cooker either I have to yank the fan oven door or use a screwdriver to prise it open and as for the other side that is slightly open at the top so I have to be careful when I rest my hands on the top because it gets a bit on the warm side on there! We had the thermostat on the fan redone about 3 years ago but with everything else failing seemed time to pension it off. DD says will the new one fit in OK. I said it's the same size as our one. So then she said but it's black. Well yeah they don't do green. But we do have black flecks in the granite and it will go fine with the slate floor and the pine cupboards. Although they will have to go round the side of the house and through the kitchen patio doors! It isn't easy to manoeuvre through the front door or hallway otherwise! And if they say anything it's a case of - well this one is here no problemo!
The Dogmother
The guys who delivered mine struggled to get it in as they had to come down the side and through the French doors at the back - anyone would think they'd never moved heavy stuff for a living the way they complained
Valkyrie
Update to that and we have had to cancel the cooker full stop. The info sent requires a gap of x amount to clear the sides and allow to wiggle into place. OH double checked and the gap is slightly short and our 1100 Belling is actually 2 centimeters short! So he rang up Rangemaster to see if it would be OK. It isn't. Well we aren't about to smack a hole in the units and the granite for the sake of a centimeter for a cooker, so we will make do for a bit longer until we move. Which sounds like the next couple of years (which is actually more exciting for me) and then it's smallholding here we come!!!
