Misapp
Hi I know the run is fox proof but just wondered how it would fair against badgers as we have a few of the pesky things that come into our garden on the occasional night Thanks x
HennyPenny59
Hi Misapp Sorry I havn't got an answer, and didn't want to read and run, but all I know, as im sure you do to, is that Badgers are incredibly powerful animals, and I would imagine that a very determined one could possibly do some damage. Hopefully though somebody will come along soon and say that the Cube is Badger proof. If it were me though, I would be putting the Cube in an area surrounded with electrified netting, just to be safe
Egluntyne
I can't recall ever having read about a badger v cube run related disaster on the forum. However, badgers are notoriously good diggers, so I would place the run on paving slabs and make sure that it is very well anchored down. Guest
We had badgers in the garden, never had a badger attack the cube (I don't think they climb), I have a purpose built weldmesh and wooden run, my run rests on slabs so nothing can dig in. I was worried about foxes chewing the mesh so I reused some weldmesh panels from a previous run to make half height "double glazing" . To be honest my run is a bit belt, braces and strong corset as no way could anything chew through the mesh but I sleep better knowing it is bomb proof as my run is away from the human house. There has never been any damage to any of the panels.
Minnie&Moose
We also have badgers as regulars in the garden - the other night I spotted 7 of them digging up the lawn . Our cube + run is behind an electric fence and so far (approx. 4 years) we've not had any problems. At the moment I've also got 2 eglus on the lawn, outside the electric fence, and they're also fine (though covered in fox paw prints sometimes) - but I do check perimeters, fencing and ground for signs of tunnelling each morning. I also always close the eglu door when it's not behind the electric fence, and I use insulation tape to cover the gap between the droppings tray and the eglu shell to stop birds being clawed or dragged out that way - again, no signs of this ever having been disturbed but I do put 4-5 layers on.
