How does the cube ( and run) fair against badgers?

Recommended Posts

Hi Misapp

Sorry I havn't got an answer, and didn't want to read and run, but all I know, as im sure you do to, is that Badgers are incredibly powerful animals, and I would imagine that a very determined one could possibly do some damage. Hopefully though somebody will come along soon and say that the Cube is Badger proof.

If it were me though, I would be putting the Cube in an area surrounded with electrified netting, just to be safe :)

We had badgers in the garden, never had a badger attack the cube (I don't think they climb), I have a purpose built weldmesh and wooden run, my run rests on slabs so nothing can dig in. I was worried about foxes chewing the mesh so I reused some weldmesh panels from a previous run to make half height "double glazing" .

To be honest my run is a bit belt, braces and strong corset as no way could anything chew through the mesh but I sleep better knowing it is bomb proof as my run is away from the human house.

There has never been any damage to any of the panels.

We also have badgers as regulars in the garden - the other night I spotted 7 of them digging up the lawn  . Our cube + run is behind an electric fence and so far (approx. 4 years) we've not had any problems. At the moment I've also got 2 eglus on the lawn, outside the electric fence, and they're also fine (though covered in fox paw prints sometimes) - but I do check perimeters, fencing and ground for signs of tunnelling each morning. I also always close the eglu door when it's not behind the electric fence, and I use insulation tape to cover the gap between the droppings tray and the eglu shell to stop birds being clawed or dragged out that way - again, no signs of this ever having been disturbed but I do put 4-5 layers on.
