I use old newspapers in the poop trays of my coop and refresh those twice a week (but I only have three little bantam hens). Normally once every 2 weeks, I give the trays a scrub.

One of the other omeletteers uses wet wipes to clean the roosting bars, which at first I thought was a bit silly...

But it works really well! Easier and faster than doing it with water and a brush.

My run is also on bare earth (well normally, I'm giving grass another try, so currently they are on the pavement with a few wood chips.) I rake any stuff once a week. But most of it sort of disappears. The water thingy gets a scrub once a week too.

And once in a while (maybe 4 to 6 weeks or so) I scrub the poop tray, roosting bars and the inside of the coop and respray with anti-mite stuff.

I think that's about it.

I found newspaper seems to attract damp in winter so use fine wood flakes in dropping tray and it all slides off easily. I empty it every couple of days.

You'll get a hundred different answers from us. Hope you're enjoying your hens :D

In the nest box I use whatever is in the run, so hemp straw or easiness usually :D

Extravagant i Know, but..... buy a spare set of roosting bars, 1 have 3 sets :shock:

Bur it does make life so much easier especially this time of year. I work full time so dont get to see the girlies very much but pop out most evening and change the bars and just clean them all at the weekend.
