My eco solution to rat problems

Has anyone any idea what sort of creature created this hole? The entrance is about the width of an iPad and it seems to tunnel back a fair way. It's by the fence and probably goes into next door but we can't see the other end.

 

The obvious answer is fox but we get foxes pretty much daily day and night and they don't usually go to that much trouble, either choosing to leap over the fences (6 ft) or squeeze through one of the many gaps beneath them. I thought of badger but I'd have thought we were too urban for them; we don't back onto fields or farmland and are surrounded by houses and roads. There's nothing nearby apart from a lake and some woodland, which is a couple of streets away so that's unlikely a badger would bother to come that far

 

We've set up the trail camera to see if it reveals itself. There was nothing on the footage last night, though.

It looks a bit like the holes that our badger visitors inflict on our flower beds, veg beds and lawn! One of them is albino so easily spotted when it's doing a bit of 'gardening'

Oooh I hope you get whatever it is on film - how intriguing. I'd have thought that's a bit small for a fox or a badger...

I do hope it's not the girls, although I'd put nothing past Gloria!

 

Hubby did wonder if our cat had taken up a new hobby
