So, I went out this evening to shut the eglu and cube doors. The 4 new ex colony girls are still sleeping in the eglu, and the 7 others sleep in the cube.

 

-I check the run: no chooks

-I close the eglu door (to prevent escapes during head count)

-I open the egg port for head count: am surprised at the heat and number of bodies

-I close the egg port and check the run again: no chooks, but the bucket feeder has fallen over

-I check the cube: no chooks

 

....Really??!! They're ALL in there? All 11?

-Go and tell husband and get his help to move most of them before they overheat

Ah how cute Paula, I literally cannot wait until all my girls are in the cube! I hate having to clean out the wooden hutch X I hope solo is still behaving herself x

Solo is feeling very sorry for herself as she is moulting heavily. She is also the only one left in with the ginger ninjas tonight as I didn't want to hurt her new feathers by picking her up, but otherwise she's doing well.

Oh bless her, she is asweetheart, I have to wrap fauna up in a towel twice a day to give her the nystatin and I'm aware how uncomfortable it must be for her....she is going through it at the moment poor girl.

There were 10 mad madams in the eglu tonight - Crystal had installed herself under the bench instead.

I think we'll shut the eglu tomorrow afternoon.

I would have thought that if you leave the pop hole open, they'll be fine. There's quite a lot of room above their heads in the cube and room for air to circulate underneath them. It's only what I think, would like someone with more knowledge to comment

Chickabee, they were all in the eglu, if they were all in the cube I wouldn't have had a problem with it

At least tonight they've returned to the more usual arrangement of separate accomodations for each flock.

that's hilarious. How on earth do they fit. Must be one for the Guinness book of records

They were very tightly packed, so tight I couldn't actually see to count them all properly!

And the heat they were giving off

And I thought 4 in an Eglu was a bit of a squash!
