Solitary chicken - need advice

Last night I was busy in my workshop, I had put the girls in their big run. Just about dark Mrs B called me for tea. Mrs B thought I had shut the girls in their coop I thought she had/forgot (delete as applicable)

Fast forward to this morning Mrs B is shocked to see Mutha wondering around the big run. between us we had forgot to shut the coop door and lower the portcullis between the main run and the "Fox proof" smaller area.

 

 

Just ordered some "F" word proof wire and will cover the big run to make it secure as well just in case we forget again, although I doubt if we will

On a separate note that run looks superb

That run does look awesome! Very functional too! Just a thought ... Why not grow grapes on the outside? It's the perfect shape!

I wish the girls thought the run is superb, as soon as they see me come home they start pacing to get out and free range Mums not as soft as me I think

Why do we love these destructive creatures so much ?

I did what I thought was a head count a few weeks ago when they went to bed but when I came down in the morning one was running around the garden.

 

I have a large WIR bill2b with dirt floor, they also FR. I worry about sanitation in the WIR, I can't poo pick as I cant see it in the dirt, I do put piles and I mean piles of dry leaves in there in the autum and next month wood chip. What do you do

once a week I run a rake over the outside run its very fine soil (and poo) and put it in the composter. Under one of the trees in the garden is a big pile of turf which was put there out of view when we did some patio work I get handfuls of these and fill up their blue bucket they soon turn it to dust
