maizey
Hi folks, I like to hold my chickens and stroke them now and then. I 'm just wondering if chickens especially enjoy being to be stroked in any particular area of their body. Any revelations? Cheers, Maizey
Christian
Morning Maizey! Mine love a tickle just behind their comb on the back of their head and also between their 'shoulder blades'.
Shirl
I was wondering this the other day too so thanks for asking.
Janepie33
My 14 week old ISA browns leap over the fence in their enclosure (they haven't had their wings clipped yet!) and make their way into the kitchen to find someone to give them their evening cuddle. They seem to like being stroked all over - like a cat, but especially enjoy stretching out their necks and having their whole necks stroked. I never realized how long a chicken's neck is! I should have taken a photo of my 16 year old son last night, watching a Sylvester Stallone film, with a chicken asleep on his chest with her head on his shoulder. Very sweet! The Pearsons
My Chips head butts your legs until you pick her up and cudle / stroke her. She runs straight at me when she sees me. Now Toast is broody she shouts for you to come and look at the eggs (she raises herself so you can get a good view) and then seems to croon until she gets a pet. We'll see how the new girls go. xsoggyx
Only had my girls a week. They come right up to me but when I gradually go to stroke or pick them up they run away. Then they come back and we repeat the whole proces unitl I give up. Any ideads?
Christian
They will get used to you and become more tame when they start laying. Try taking them out of the egg port when it gets dark and giving them a stroke then. They are more docile at night.
MaggieMcHen
Had mine 4 weeks last Thursday - 6 of them - only one was pick upable after a week but now with patience and persiverance (spelling?) 4 out of 6 are squatting down when I go to stroke them. 2 still not keen but definately getting there. I insist on a cuddle once they are in the Cube at night when they have no option!!!!
