patsylabrador
Has anyone used their contactless card to travel in London? It sounds easy enough but I'm slightly nervous of doing it. I got used to oyster cards quick enough but it seems weird to not actually buy some form of ticket first. It's just the next step and I want to embrace it but I don't want to stand at the ticket machine looking silly. I guess after a few goes I'll be comfortable with it. Olly
I see it done a lot (I travel by Tube every day) - I don't have a contactless card, otherwise I would probably be doing it. I assume that you don't get the discount/fare capping that you get with Oyster though? I've got my Oyster card on automatic top-up so as soon as it falls below £10 it 'refills' from my bank account. I used to have a season ticket but since I'm working my notice period and will be giving up the daily commute in a few weeks ( ) I didn't bother to renew it last year. gavclojak
not on the tube but I use it in M&S all the time and love it
Princess Leia
YS has done it and found it OK. I believe that it has a built in cap that prevents you being charged more that you would pay for the equivalent day ticket. Some info here:- http://www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/contactless/how-to-use-it
Olly
Thanks, Princess Leia - that's really useful as I didn't know how it worked. I expect all future cards will be contactless and it will do away with the need for Oyster cards to some extent. I often see people using them in coffee shops. patsylabrador
That's brilliant, thank you. I'm always losing oyster cards but always have my bank card with me.
The Dogmother
I asked my bank to cancel my contactless card and issue me with one which doesn't have that facility; I work with some IT geeks, and have heard too many dodgy things about them. Cat tails
I agree with DM here... I'll wait a bit untill all problems (because problems are bound to surface) have been solved. I'll let others be the pioneers here.
