How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

Thank you for replies to my previous topics. Will answer in due course.

 

Today I noticed Pixie in a corner a little hunched. I am worried.

 

A couple of days ago she had a small wound on her right foot, on the webbed bit. I sprayed gentian violet and it seems to be healing. Today, after seeing her hunched, I picked her up and noticed some feathers a bit ruffled on her chest. Parted the feathers to find a bald patch on her crop and some feathers still attached but half broken.

 

The skin isn't red or damaged.

 

Her face looked a little puffy. Still laying daily. Her feathers look a bit tardy for her in general.

 

I think they are about 9 months now.

 

Bullying or moult or something else?

Hi PixieDust. Not sure I can help but you're always so on top of things I know you wouldn't ask unless you're genuinely worried so I didn't want to not reply.

 

Is it possible that she's just had those feathers a while now and they've got broken through dust bathing, egg laying, perching and the like? And that the foot injury was an injury rather than a peck? I knowyouspend a fair amount of time with them so I'd have thought you'd have noticed if there was any bullying. That doesn't explain the unhappy look of her though. It seems a bit of an odd time of year but she may be about to moult, although if her face really is puffy that would suggest an illness.

 

I think if it was me, I'd monitor her for a day or two, and if she's still not right, get her to a vet. You know what Luvachicken always says!

Just a thought......plucked out breast feathers can be a sign of broodiness. Any feathers in the nest box? Is she laying? Has her demeanor changed ?

Broodiness did cross my mind. Sometimes when they don't know what they're doing they have a kind of mini broody. This happened with a couple of mine. It would explain her looking puffy and grumpy.

 

As long as her poo is fine (bear in mind they can do enormous ones when broody), and she's eating and drinking. I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe give her some tonic and just see how she is for a few days

I had run out of ACV a few weeks ago and kept meaning to replace it and, well along with my forgetting to order food, I have failed miserably. Also have a very heavy month bill wise and so am stretching out worming and louse powder as well as having to replace Aubiose and pellets. Plus the Bank Holiday!

 

Anyhow, I got a good deal from Amazon on some Braggs ACV which I have seen across the net having good press, even in the UK as it is a US item. I have been in bed since Saturday afternoon with some sort of bug, so they start a week of that in their water this morning. Lily has some very watery droppings but in fine in all other ways.

 

A week of ACV should help intestinal health and may perk them up.

I've just written about that very feeling in another post about my Penny hen who got sour crop and despite my best efforts had to be PTS. I had forgotten to put ACV in their water for 3 months! I normally do it 1 week in every 4 But I have decided to put it on my calendar along with all pet worming!!!!!! To try and avoid anymore human error

 

We are very good at beating ourselves up us chicken mums We must remember we are only human and can only do our best I hope you're feeling better soon too! The sun is shinning here

 

Onwards and upwards I'm on day 15 with a broody on hatching eggs from my gang.....Yikes All being well, 9 cute fluffies here next sun

Oh how lovely. Maybe one day I might hatch some. Would need a bigger run though!

 

Sun out here too. OH going to cut the lawn so we may try 20 mins free range with the Pobs. A bit of fresh air will do me good while it's warm.

Anyway, I would keep an eye on her for a couple of days, but she does sound like my Gemma who is often naked during the Summer

When I first saw her naked chest I was worried but then I realised she was just getting ready to be broody

She always puts a smile on my face when I look at her like that and I always say to her "where have all your clothes gone ?"

Ordered Marriages Flubenvet pellets which should be here around Thursday I guess. Does anyone know if Farm and Pet Place have to speak to you re Flubenvet dosing etc., every time you buy it?
