bokbok87
Hello all, This morning my OH woke to find a fox next to our Eglu classic and our 3 girls screaming their heads off. By the looks of it he must have been waiting for me to let them out this morning and go back to bed. Although the hens were in their WIR - he managed to get a few feathers out of them! I have since put back on their heavy duty cover as by the look of the paw prints on the clear one - he had been sitting on top of the run to try and get them. After my OH cleared up all the feathers he let them out for some much needed treats. They've gone back in their WIR but they aren't happy about it. My concern is over the week when we are both at work it will happen again! I think he must have been trying to scare them into getting close to the fence so he could try and bite them. Any suggestions on how to stop it? Our bluebelle is pretty much in shock right now and not moving. Though she did gobble down the worms! Any ideas on making her feel better? No injuries just shock. mimi5
Oh dear what a fright for your girls and you! This is what most of us dread happening I guess you could bring in your stressed girl and keep her dark and warm. I believe she may need to drink, so perhaps offer her some water too. Once she perks up, then pop her out again. I think the dark run cover is a good idea and I would just check all around the perimeter of your WIR, just to be sure it's as secure as you can get it! I'm sure others will have more /better ideas! Best wishes for your girlie
bokbok87
I'm sure others will have more /better ideas! Best wishes for your girlie Thanks! I hate to say this but the fox has already been back I can chase it away all of today but tomorrow the girls are on their own....unless I take a day of unpaid leave! gavclojak
I'm sure he won't be able to get to them if the run was put together properly but the stress won't do them much good especially if it's a protracted attempt. Do you know anyone with some electric fencing you could borrow just to put round the classic and run for a few weeks. A jolt might be just what he needs! mimi5
Oh dear I guess it's not going to give up easily I had another thought. If you have some nutri drops you could give those to your bluebelle. How is she now? If you have a good general tonic I would add it to their water(for the stress) for week. I hope you find a solution
EmuCat
Once they've found you, they'll keep trying until either they get all the hens, or something scares them off properly ( (such as electric fencing or a big dog!) Love animals, but they can be viscious little *******s!
bokbok87
Thanks all! I am happy to report that we've had no more fox attempts at all in the last week. The last time we saw a fox we threw a stone at it to scare it away and that seems to have done the trick for now! Fingers crossed that all stays well
