derbyshire farm in the news

Recommended Posts

I know this farm. It is a free range business alongside the A38 and features a wind turbine in the field. Unfortunately there are millions of layers killed every year and only a tiny percentage get re-homed Merlina. Without this arrangement chicken variety cat and dog food would be horrendously expensive.

I know this farm very well, their animal welfare is excellent but they need to make money like any other business.

I have reserved a few hens as the owner knows me through my daughter. I believe the £2 charge is to deter undesirable. The farm often offer re-homing days when they are disposing of their old flock but the interest in the hens this time has overwhelmed them as they only have a small staff.

In the past undesirables have tried to steal hens for eating but usually the drivers on A38 alert the farm owner who now has the hens in other paddocks.

There is a farm shop on site which sells many deli items plus a proper butchery counter which is very good. Children can buy cups of food to feed to hens, llamas, and sheep so it is a nice family trip out.

There I have said my pice so I will shut up now

All my friends keep telling me to get more but i have 6 now so cant really have anymore due to space.but its been in the local papers as well, think its a good idea as puts it out there how many hens they need for eggs to be in our shops, as this happends all over the country and they are kept locely and free range not caged
