Phone Numpty question (again)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I had a basic PAYG phone (Siemens AX72) for occasional/emergency use - 9 years old, have already replaced the battery once.

So bought new basic phone (Nokia 206 for £10).

Put my old SIM card in new phone - all seemed OK but ....

I can't see my old sms messages on the new phone BUT I can still see them on my old phone with a new SIM card with no credit on it.

I assumed messages were associated with the phone number (ie the SIM) and so I would be able to access them on the new phone with the original/old SIM ???

I can't see any obvious way of transferring them.

Is it possible ? (not critical but would be nice)

Any ideas ?

SMS messages are normally sorted on the phone memory. But, they can also be stored on the SIM card too (much like your contacts can be stored on the SIM card). However, your SIM card has only a tiny amount of memory on it, and looking at the manual for your phone, it is not possible to transfer the messages onto your SIM card at all. But your phone does have MMS messaging, which means you should be able to send your old texts to an email address.

The messages might be saved on the old phone's memory and not the sim card. If you go into messages settings, you might find an option to copy them onto the sim card (not sure though!).

:) That's my advice

Thanks all. I can't find that option - I think my phone is too old!

It doesn't really matter.

I just thought (wrongly) that messages were stored by Virgin (since they seemed to take a while to download) and so they'd be accessible on my new phone.

Just shows, learn something new everyday (on Omleteers know everything!!!)
