AJuff
My two little columbines are very flighty and when they are let out of the run they fly high and flap their wings a lot. I clipped their wings before letting them free range but it seems to have made no difference to the hight they achieve. They can run very fast too! I talk to them gently and stroke them in the eglu after they have settled down for the night. They still back off from gentle handling and tonight one of them pecked me as I tried to stroke her. They are described as 'active' birds by the breeder I got them from. Will they get more active? or become less flighty/friendly? Also sick of two of my big girls jumping over the eglu netting What is the point of it if it can't keep them where I want them to be? Couperwife
Dont know how active, active is, we disregarded columbines as we have a small garden. How high is your netting (sorry dont know how high omlet netting is) we have 6 foot of chicken wire around our garden and they havent get over it. but I think if it was 4 ft, it really would be touch and go. could you extend the netting a little? AJuff
Yes, I am considering raising the netting level as it doesn't keep Daisy and Darcy in either. Last night I spoke with OH about creating a permanent run for them. He's a bit anti it as he feels it will look like an allotment garden soon with corrugated sheets and bits of shabby wire netting! I managed to convince him otherwise with lots of lovely pictures of Omleteers runs. When he gets back from work today we are going to plan it!!! it will solve the problem of moving the run about every two days.
Hilly
Just an idea, my girls live at the bottom of our garden and is next to the road and footpath, so as not to make it look like colditz and to be in keeping with a quaint hampshire village i painted the wire, it blended into the garden beautifully, it was painted a light green, warning, wear old clothes as you come away very speckled!!!! AJuff
What a good idea, will let the OH know. I have two weeks of holiday left and I'd like it built asap before I go back to work. Unfortunately were away for a few days from tomorrow . . .
