Really quite interesting when you get into looking up at the patterns and stuff. She uses all her s"Ooops, word censored!"s - hardly any wastage at all. But the most interesting thing was she doesn't mind if the seams don't tie in or match for the s"Ooops, word censored!"py bits because she says it adds interest. Of course putting them in a bigger scheme of things they are trimmed down. And she uses the Yellow Pages paper because it doesn't smear onto the fabric - and recycles somewhat!!! Now I've looked at our Yellow Pages that came through the door recently - I think it's only about 100 pages thick now - nothing like the huge encyclopaedia of ye olden days. Haven't looked to see if the pages are too inky yet. Even Thomson's Local is now a tiny pamphlet!

 

Not quite sure about the quilt cam though - but people do send in photos of their quilts which can be interesting - they tell her they've done it wrong and sometimes ask for help and she says no - it's fine because you haven't done it wrong . . . you've done it different and that adds interest! Very encouraging for a novice to hear.

 

Lots of lovely patterns to make too.

I follow her blog every day. But don't go to the quilt cam. Have one of her books though. Am in Indiana this week and today have been to Shipshewana Amish country and bought loads of fabric, a ruler gripper and a new ruler. Had a good day. The quilts over here are so so amazing and one shop a huge frame for lots of people to hand quilt in a huge group. I always buy fabric here. So much cheaper.

Yes I agree - doesn't mean that our yellow pages print is stable like theirs. Hats off to her for finding a Womble use for them though.

 

Blackrocksrock - I agree, no comparison with costs - apart from having to buy extra luggage to squeeze in all the extra fabric! Now I wonder who had to do that? How fabulous to go and see the quilts there. Have a super time.

So lucky to shop in Amish country. I went years ago and came back with loads of gorgeous fabric at fraction of what we'd pay. Hope you get to see some of their culture too and quilts.

Yep enjoyed this trip immensly as it was really warm - the day I left it was 90 degrees and here it is 48 degrees in wet and cold Scotland. My haul consisted of 2 jelly rolls, a layer cake - moda Nocturne worked out at 22,25 each and here its 31.00 and some fat quarters, 2 s"Ooops, word censored!" bags at $5 each a ruler and a ruler gripper and a pair of fiskars pinking shears and 3 yards gorgeous cat fabric at what worked out to be £6.50 per yard. I think I did good!!. Usually go to the amish community in either Napanee or Shipshewana - we went to both and their quilts and shops are amazing - next time a bigger suitcase and some more fabric is coming back with me.

A successful shop! It's a really good rate - expect more than double that in some places now.

 

I do like the log cabin quilt on your bed too.

 

I've been refolding my stash and I think to myself goodness I'm so addicted to fabric - I just love looking at them and feel rather guilty that I haven't even started using some of them! Then I think I need this or that colour to blend or contrast and then I smack my hand and say ENOUGH!!!

The log cabin quilt is actually stretchy bought cover looking like quilting but it is nice. Just had to go out and order a new machine today. Should come middle next week. Cannot wait. I too have really too much in my stash but can't help it am addicted!!!

I've started doing some piecing for a table runner, it's making my head hurt working out simple measurements. I've been doing picture and improvisational quilts too long.

 

Wish I had a proper stash Valkerie mine is all cut into all5 shelves of it and I don't think I have any bigger than a fat quarter

 

Love your log cabin as well.

I love table runners - bought a half hexi ruler last year and made one from Missouri Star Quilt Co Tutorials which I love. Will PM you.

Reading cheesy won't upset my tum! I like looking at the Missouri Quilt Co videos. Very inspiring. I think I'd like one of those tools to work out the exact quarter inch on the machine. I've seen them in Creative Grids - which also has some interesting demos. Wayyyy too interesting and of course I think oooh must have one of those rulers!

 

There is a blog that I chanced on by accident (piraterodgers.com well the link to the pirate was just by chance - yarrrrr) was for a lone star made from fat quarters. She kind of left it in the air for some time, but today I discovered an update where she's almost finished it - gorgeous it is too.

 

While I've been ironing, I am now on the fabrics that I bought as co-ordinates and I see that some really don't go at all, so that goes back into the spare stash sections. It's coming together slowly, but OH says that even he feels inspired when he sees the fabric stacked on show. Yeah, right, but at least he understands it all now.

Er, popped to a quilt shop to replace the not so perfect co-ordinating fabric to ideal fabric - along with some other bits! My bad!

Also bits acquired from Creative Grids to tidy my long rulers and squares, two books ordered from Kaleidoscope and quarter inch markers for the sewing machine from Smiths! Sorry no partridges in a pear tree just yet - chickens under the blackcurrants where we've opened up the fruit netting though.

 

So I think I'm ready to rumble on the machine now. All fabrics done and on the shelves looking at me saying use me use me!
