Jules.
I don't know officially what the hole in the nest box is for, but I presume it is for drainage- the nest box is always the longest bit of the eglu to dry when cleaning- I usually finish off drying it with some scrunched up newspaper. Buzz always sleeps in the nest, & poos there I use shredded paper to line the nest box & remove it all & replace every day or so.
Sue and the Spice Girls
I think the hole is for drainage when your washing the eglu. I put a peice of paper over mine under the shredded paper I use. I stopped the girls sleeping in the nest box by a tissue box in the hole for a few nights before they got the hangf of sleeping on the bars. Shirl
A ball in the nest has been keeping them off thus far. As I'm not expecting them to lay anytime soon I thi nk I'll leave it there for a bit. I am thinking of getting a mature Faverolle bantam though so then I'll have to think again. Milly
Hmmm - I would believe the hole was for drainage if it actually drained! The water seems to run into the corners away from the hole! Or maybe that is just in my eglu? Milly
