Olly
A friend has asked me to make something for her, and I bought a cheap duvet cover on EBay to use as backing. (When I say cheap, it was £18.95, not knockdown price.) Fortunately I washed it before use, and discovered that the dye runs. It's now been washed three times and is still leaching navy-blue dye into everything around it. It's going to be useless for the intended purpose, which was to applique other fabric to it - is there anything I can do to fix the dye? I know there are products to get rid of the colour run, fortunately I only put some cleaning cloths with it on the first wash so nothing has been damaged. I want to get on with the project but I'm wondering if I should just start again with a new one.
Groovychook
You could try adding salt to a wash to 'set' the dye but I think if it was me, I'd start again with another piece of fabric. It would be such a shame to risk ruining all that work if it were still to bleed in the future.
Ursula123
As Groovychook says I would try 1Kg of salt in a non washing powder wash to set the dye.
soapdragon
For peace of mind and to prevent any damage to your work I think I'd replace it! If it came from E Bay you could contact the seller and complain about the colour run. I certainly wouldn't expect that from an ordinary duvet cover......unless there was a caveat on the listing. I think you were extremely wise to wash before use and so find out before any damage was done!
