How to treat tapeworm

Recommended Posts

Have you seen tapeworm proglottids in their poo?

I thought tapeworm was fairly difficult to acquire unless you are on agricultural land. I thought my girls had tapeworm last year as the had small white segments in their poo but it turned out to be the bits of feather they had eaten when moulting.

I took a sample to the vet. It wasn't tapeworm, it was a rather large roundworm. I'd only wormed the 2 months ago. I was due to go on holiday in about 2 hours when they phoned and told me. They said there were lots of eggs too. Luckily I found a local marriages store, that I didn't know existed. I hot footed it down there. As it was a bad infestation how long do you think I should leave it til I worm them again?

I think repeat in 3 weeks is the suggestion for a serious infestation Chickabee.

We had definite tapeworm many years ago (moved since then) and it was treated simply with Verm-X, as Flubenvet was completely ineffective on it. Since then we have had another unusual ceacal red worm and that wouldn't respond to Flubenvet, but Verm-X sorted them. We now routinely worm with alternate treatments every 3 months.
