Sorry - Christmas question

Recommended Posts

OH and I are toying with the idea of not going to a Christmas Market in Germany but having some trips out in England. I've planned quite a fun list but I wondered if anyone had any crazy ideas also has anyone been to the Christmas Market in St Albans?

I am never, ever going to Bath Christmas Market ever again....I have bad memories of that one, which is a shame because it was ok. The thought of it makes me feel low.

OH has scuppered one of my plans, I wanted to go to the Hunterian Museum which I admit is a bit gruesome and follow it up with Hamleys. I'll probably do that with MS&YS instead.

I also wondered about York Christmas Market, is that good?

By the way, Hughenden Manor does a nice Christmas event. It was their first last year and we really enjoyed it. I'm hoping it will be back this year.

IMO, both the Christmas markets in Winchester and Bath are great. I've been told the one in York is good, although I have never been.

You could try searching for Christmas markets in caves. There's a couple of places round this way that hold them in either old mines or in natural caves which are usually pretty good. They usually give off a really magical atmosphere, particularly if you go with kids.

Okay, so Christmas markets, like I say: Bath and Winchester are both great, IMO.

Wokey Hole Caves (south of Bristol) do a Winter Wonderland. I've never been as I always had the impression it was for kids, so I can't say what it's like, but you could investigate: http://www.wookey.co.uk/winter-wonderland-2016/

A few miles away is the Cheddar Gorge which also does a Festive Night, although again I've never been... I can't seem to find the details for this year.

Clearwell Caves up near the Forest of Dean do a Christmas market in the caves, although it was quite a small one: http://www.clearwellcaves.com/christmas.html

Not sure of where else might. I know there's a few cave systems down Devon and Cornwall way, but I've never been down to find out what's on!

Thank you AndyRoo. I searched Google and found Clearwell Caves. It's not something I had thought of and it sounds great and is on my list. Thank you for the links. I'm quite excited about my list now. I will also check out Winchester, I hadn't realised there was a market there.

Ali's Girls, I looked at TimeOut London online and it's full of great ideas generally and the museum was on there.

We did a recce of St Albans today. The cathedral is inspiring and we were very lucky because a choir/orchestra was rehearsing for something tonight so we were listening to sublime music while we visited.

We have to go back to visit the Roman ruins.

Thanks Andy for links and Patsy. We did St Albans cathedral last year. Might try Christmas market if don't get to Bristol. Its strange last year a work colleague was having IVF. I was in the cathedral and found the prayer cards so wrote one out praying for family and this friend with her IVF. She's now got a little girl. Divine intervention at its best. :D
