Chickabee
Is it possible for the same cream legbar to lay 2 different shades of egg?. I've had pure blue ones and a few green ones. If this isn't possible it means my 6 year old columbine has come back into lay
AndyRoo
Not sure about blue / green, but the one of our who we know is laying sometimes varies slightly in terms of the shade of blue. I was quietly hoping we'd get a mint-green egg layer, but no such luck!

sjp
a green egg layer can lay a blue egg the same way as a brown egg layer lays pale eggs green eggs are blue eggs with a coat of brown over top so they can and do get closer to blue as the brown pigment gets used up then once the pigment is 'topped up' the darker green eggs come back just the same as darker brown eggs blue eggshell is blue all the way through the same as white eggshell they do fade a bit but not as much as brown and green I do have a couple of green egg layers that lay more blue eggs than green one I think no longer lays green eggs but I'm waiting to see if she starts laying green ones after the moult if your CLB has only ever laid blue eggs I doubt she's started to lay green now so I think your Columbine has laid again the green one looks a touch bigger than the blue and it does look more like and egg from an older girl

AndyRoo
They're certainly big eggs - unless that's false perspective - the ones we're getting right now are quite small. I'm hoping the size will increase with time!
