Poorly Silkie

Recommended Posts

Just went to check girls this morning and found our little Silkie in a heap, bleeding from top of head, with most of her feathers being pulled out by he 'friends'. Rescued her and brought her in to die in peace in utility room. Half an hour later she looks very slightly perkier. Held her over some water and she tried to drink and fluttered her wings. Is this a severe case of bullying or do you think she was ill and then set upon. I don't know wether to rush her to vets or wait and see. Any help greatly appreciated.

Loss of feathers and pecking. I am so cross with myself as few months ago I had segregated 2 silkies and 2 Mille fleur bantams in adjoining WIR and little Olaf had been much happier. Previously she tended to hide in cube. Lately I had taken to leaving gate between 2 runs open and they appeared fine. I have had 2 chickens die suddenly in past and they were just lying in run, everyone else ignoring them so I suspected severe bullying when she was being viciously attacked. We kept her in utility room and she laid an egg so we carefully put her back in Go Up with her sister who has been cuddled in to her all day. I have tried cat food, not interested and lifting water to her, takes little drink so I think either tomorrow she will have recovered from shock or she won't have lasted through the night. :(

Aww, poor wee thing.

It could just be the shock of being picked on so badly.

I once had 2, one after the other, who had been seriously pecked on top of their heads with a lot of bleeding.

By the time I had sorted the first one the other one had been attacked.

I imagine your little silkie could have a bit of a head ache and is feeling a bit sore.

I hope she makes it.

I have my fingers crossed for her xx
