AndyRoo
Hello all, Today I applied some violet spray to the girls who were being heavily plucked by the sisters grim, but I have a couple of questions: 1) how long does the spray last? And: 2) Do I need to reapply it until the feathers come back? How long does it take for the feathers to grow back? The only place I could find the stuff at short notice was a local pet store and they only had the bottle which was a bit vague on instructions! I've also dosed them with some anti-peck spray. I need to order some bumps-bits too. I'm just hoping this all stuff finally stops the pecking!!
Millie-Annie
In my experience the purple hangs around for quite a while, you will get used to chickens with purple rinses. Dont order your bumpa bits from Omlet, order them from Cotswold chickens
AndyRoo
One of the girls we had to spray was the White Star. She now looks like she is donning some kind of purple mohawk!
The Dogmother
OK, so the purple spray is just an antiseptic with a colour that hides the colour of blood - it used to be called Gentian Violet Spray in the old days - it's not much use in deterring peckers, I'm afraid. Anti-pecking spray is the stuff you want, but some of them aren't much use. I have used the Nettex one on other folks' chooks, be careful to follow the dosing instructions (in stupidly small print!) carefully. I will PM you a link to a video on fitting Bumpa Bits - happy to help if you're coming up this way.
