eggalp1
Just wondering if anyone knows where i can buy Peckablocks from? I'm after the really hard ones with the red plastic tray underneath. I just discovered today i have a feather-pecker
Cat tails
Although a pecking block will give some distraction, you probably be better off fitting the feather pecker with a bumpa-bit. I understand from the others here that feather pecking is a difficult habit to break and the only real solution is a bumpa bit.
eggalp1
I'm willing to try anything before fitting a bumpabit as I have found this incredibly stressful in the past. Today I've given them lots of scratch, Apple's, Hensticks, a cd and a mirror and have given each bird a spray with anti-pek. I need to nip this in the bud and if I can't stop it, she will go. I have had this problem before and never managed to break the habit, even using bumpabits and long term seperation. I am convinced that the stress led to the eventual early death of the two pecked hens. I wont tolerate it again so unfortunately she has only one chance! I have read that Peckablocks will naturally blunt a bird's beak as they are so hard, so this is just part of the plan, but after a long search on Google I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them. Does anybody know? Thankings
Millie-Annie
I bought these but mine never touched them. Personally if you really feel the only option is to get rid of her I’d do it now. You won’t stop her feather pecking by distracting her sadly. At least the shock of going somewhere else and having to sort out her place might stop her
The Dogmother
I would avoid peckablocks and any of those treat type things - very low nutritional value, and they soon get bored of them. If you are averse to bumps bits, then a spell in the broody cage might break her of the habit. Failing that I would put a bit on her - if you're in my area (north Oxon/south Warks) then I'd be happy to do it for you if you find it too stressful.
