Rona
Sorry, I know there is loads written on here about hemcore and auboise but I've still got a question. I read somewhere that it is horse bedding and made from wood shavings so looked in the horsey section of my local country store expecting to find one of them there but they only had other stuff which I think was called something like Bedmax Excel and another one I can't remember the name of (should have written it down - memory like a sieve!) Anyway, they both said things about dust extraction, good absorbancy, and one said it had something added to make it smell nice. Does anyone know if these are the same as hemcore and auboise or am I looking at the wrong sort of stuff entirely? They were about £5 - £6 for a big bag/bale - would that be about the right price? chelsea
I think someone uses "easybed" on here which is used for horses. Hemcore and aubiose is used for horses too. im sure they are all pretty much the same sort of stuff
chelsea
we pay about £6.50 for a big bale of hemcore. and hemcore has citronella in it which sounds pretty similar to what you were describing,
arowland17
I agree, our farm shop had aubiose and easybed and one other make and they all looked identical
Tony
I agree, our farm shop had aubiose and easybed and one other make and they all looked identical Aubiose and Hemcore are made from hemp, I believe all the others are made from either wood shaving or straw. I've been using Hemcore for the past month now for both my hens and ducks and I wouldn't use anything else. It's excellent stuff. Don't think there is a lot of difference between Hemcore and Aubiose other than Hemcore is British, the other French.
craftyhunnypie
It's me who uses easy bed - fantastic stuff! I also use aubiose when they don't have any easy bed in the local pet shop. The chooks love anything they can fling about & I love it because it stays clean looking and dry. Gosh when I think back to the bark chip days. ugh! (shudders). Muddy mush! The Dogmother
Tony's right - easybed is wood based and not as dry or absorbant as Hemcore or Aubiose. Hemcore has slightly less fine shreds than Aubiose but otherwise they're identical. I'd never go back to using bark or woodchips, my bunnies like Hemcore too.
