Day light shines through Omlet holes.

Recommended Posts

I have just purchased a Omlet Classic, and as soon as  daylight shines through the ventilation holes, my hens make a real noise. Never had this before in the wooden house where it was dark when locked in. Is there anything i can do ? Really wish i had not bought one now. They are noisy from 6am really worried about the neighbours.

You can cover the run with a green/dark tarp, blocking some light to the front of the coop. I do this with New Years to shield the from the light from fireworks.

But otherwise, day break is day break and chickens will wake up. I leave the coop open year round, so the chickens can get up when they want, but have struggled in the past with early rising chickens and neighbours. I now make sure their breakfast is ready in the run in one of those Omlet feeding pendulums.

The air holes are needed to provide ventilation and carry away ammonia fumes from their droppings, so best leave them uncovered. I have never shut the door on any of my Omlet housing (Ok, just a couple of times when it fell to -8 at night) and don't have any problems with noise, except for the odd egg announcement. The neighbours assure me that I worry needlessly as they don't hear them.
