Sheila - you're doing better than Poppy - Carl found her out in the run this morning at 7.10 - she obviously hadn't made it into the Eglu and he'd locked them up without noticing (terrible parenting skills here!). I think she must have been in the roll-away nesting box - you could always share that? :? It's made from a cardboard box - one step up from a bag :lol:

So easily done though, isn't it? I don't think there are many nights in this country that would cause them harm, especially when there is some kind of shelter, such as the nest box. Thanks for the offer, would love to share with Poppy, this bag blows about too easily ...

Bedtime takes a while here as I go out at near dusk to lock them in foxproof run, but they don't go in the eglu at that stage. Now it's colder, I go back later to shut the doors. I always have to do a head count with a torch, which is an amusing game. Quite often I miss one, so am one short & have to re count  Chooks are used to batty woman with torch now, but I don't like disturbing them when they're sleepy. But if I start too soon, they want to come out again!

Ours do a fair bit of bed-hopping too. It adds an element of suprise to the locking up the eglu door routine, peering through the eggport door to see who is sleeping with who. We have had all 5 in together quite regularly, but more often end up with a 3 & 2 combination, or a 4 & 1 combo- I don't like that one either though, feel too sad for the lonely one, so invariably lift out one of the 4 to go into the other eglu.

8) Isn't this forum lovely for sharing these experiences? I love the surprise of seeing what combination they have chosen, and also lift one across if one is one her own. It's a lovely little routine, but no one outside the forum quite understands what it means to me.:D

It also helps in identifying eggs, as I'm not sure who is doing what at the moment. At least it narrows down the possibilities if you know who came out of which Eglu. (One day, Kate, it'll be Phil!) :D

Yes, I quite like Golden Egg (even if I am old enough to remember the fore-runner to todays fast food outlets - the Golden Egg restaurants - anyone else?)

Oh yes! They did the most delicious chips in the whole world. Occasionally my friend & I would go after work, before catching the bus, and have just a plate of chips with salad cream :P

Sometimes, after pay day, we would have a fried egg too, runny for chip dipping. Yum.

Isn't it funny, it was all sit down, not take away. Opposite there was a Wimpy bar. They did actually offer burgers to take away, but it hadn't caught on. They shut down through lack of trade, a year or 2 before Mac :twisted: took off. They could have made a fortune if they'd predicted the takeaway trend.

Congratulations on Golden Egg, Lesley!

We still have a Wimpy in our town - I don't do that sort of food but I did accompany a friend in there for a coffee last year and they still serve their fast food on china plates and use real cutlery so they're not all bad. Who chooses to eat off a paper placemat????? Go on I know you're out there! Anyone getting the impression I hate the Golden Arches?! :D

My sister has friend with great children - good fun - proper kids - not nerdy - but who also hate the golden arches and were once heard to say - no word of lie - remember this is an eight year old - "I'd rather someone hold a pistol to my head than eat there!" I'm Loving It!! :D
