Ninu
For a few days one of my girl's was feeling a little low. Not eating enough, sitting down , kept away from the other hens. She continued to lay but not every day. We went away for a few weeks and our friends stayed at the house. On sat they saw blend near her vent. They cleaned her and she perked up. Last night they all went into eglu and this morning they found her it the bottom of the ladder in the coop. She died. I just don't know what could have gone wrong. Cat tails
Sorry to hear you lost a hen. It could have been many different things. Chickens are prey animals and will hide an illness as long as possible. Once they start to look miserable, it’s often necessary to visit a vet as soon as possible. Stop eating/drinking, sitting down a lot, hunched and fluffed up are indications of a sick hen.
Luvachicken
Losing a hen is always sad, especially if you are away at the same time that they pass. Sometimes we never know what is wrong with them when they hide things so well. Sweet dreams little chicken x
Girly
So sorry to hear this. Hopefully your other hens are ok. If only they could say they don’t feel well! Lots of hugs xx
englishrose
Ninu, I feel your pain. I lost one of my girls a short while ago. She was the last of 4 big girls and now I have 3 Pekin bantams. You gave her a lovely life and that was a blessing to her. x
