little chickadee
Hi - we've got a new cube with 4 lovely chickens which we can't let into the garden because it's not enclosed. When we move the cube is it ok to move it while they are closed in the house, or will this completely freak them out? there's no instructions about this. Would really appreciate some advice
Christian
I don't see why not. As long as you move it carefully I wouldn't see a problem. Moving it whilst they are in the run would allow them to escape, as the run lifts doesn't it?
Guest
ours travelled from Rossendale to Widnes in cardboard boxes in the boot of the car and never made a sound! I think when they're in the dark, they go into roost mode. Perhaps move it first thing in the morning, before they're fully awake and they probably won't even notice. Are you having to move it far? If it's only a short distance then I wouldn't worry unless you're moving it over cobblestones or something? what's your alternative if somebody said no anyway? Madchook
well if you can transport them in an eglu I would have thought they'd be fine so long as the angle you need to use the wheels doesn't send them flying into the side??? Out of interest, do you have to detach the run to move it?
Christian
Maddy, the whole lot can be moved as the run is lifted by putting the wheels down. The skirt hangs down as you move it, so maybe the girls wouldn't escape if in the run?
Tweety
We moved our girls in their Cube a couple of weeks ago. We waited until they had gone to bed, shut the door, and then just wheeled them round to their new site. There was the odd noise from inside during the move, but they were fine next morning when we opened the door.

Thanks christian, I'm debating whether to move mine round or make a perm run area, I move the eglu once a week which seems ok for the lawn (well takes 3/4 weeks to recover but it does!) but I find it really dfficult to move. But the cube sounds quite easy!
Tweety
Yes, the Cube is much easier than the Eglu.
