8ccurtis
Well, after some panicked phone calls to Omlet about missing instructions, and some creative use of cable ties to compensate for missing run clips, our Cube has finally been built!! We did have a small veggie patch out the back of the conservatory, but lousy drainage and an extremely wet summer has meant that we've not used this and it's just gone to weed. Our cunning plan is to keep the chickens in the Eglu run most of the time on a patch of lawn, but to give them a bit of the surrounding lawn and the weedy veggie patch to call their very own. I've put a picture up on http://gallery.mac.com/colin.curtis#100016. I was wondering about enclosing the veggie patch and lawn with some chicken netting, and was thinking about putting Hemcore down in the Eglu. Has anybody any ideas on how often the Hemcore would need changing out, and tips on how to stop it being spread outside the netted area? Lots of thanks Colin. Egluntyne
I much prefer cable ties myself. I've broken too many finger nails with the clips. I change the hemcore about every month to 6 weeks....depending on how grotty it is and how wet the weather has been. I did both eglus today. You can put boards around the edges. I don't bother. Olly
A brilliant tip from someone else on here ... (sorry, can't recall who it was but if you're reading this and it was you, it's a great idea!) - buy a roll of plastic lawn edging and some cable ties. Run the lawn edging along the bottom of the Eglu, and secure it with cable ties every so often, you will need to make holes in the edging which is very easy to do. It looks neat, and it stops most of the hemcore being kicked out, and it costs about £9.99 with enough left to do it again next year! I only change my aubiose about every six weeks or so, it is fantastic stuff.
