flair
(Sorry if I'm being bossy - it's just a good way to let people know exactly what your question relates to!) Thanks vicki I get the idea now.
flair
I agree the photos were a brill idea. I can now see that my chucks are still a little too young as they are not bright red. I also was unsure how red was red, now have a really good idea. Patience is a virtue as they say
ktdot
What about these two? They are 25 weeks old now and still keeping their legs crossed! Do they look like it could be any time soon?
The Dogmother
This is a spot the laying chicken thread now! They've got mice big headgear, but it's pale, perhaps they're conserving their energy to keep warm. You'll worry about spotting the signs, but believe me, when they go red or start crouching, it's unmistakable.

Snowy
Ktdot - your Bovans Nera looks the same as my copper black maran hybrid - same headgear, and she started laying last week or so. You might just get eggs before Christmas, you never know! And my last two 'blue' egg layers have been lap dancing for England; lovely big red combs and wattles, but no eggs yet - I can't stand the suspense! little chickadee
Anyone read this book with their little ones? It's basically a little chap looking all over the farm for the eggs "no eggs here.....Oh dear" I think you can get the gist. It's a lovely little lift the flap book though which we read with ours when they were little. Every day when we look in the eggport "no eggs here.....Oh dear"
