Charlottechicken
1.When is your birthday? 2. What are Magic Scarves? 1. 3rd January. I peeked in the birthday card as it felt thick 2. Really fluffy scarves sewn in tubes that either stretch widthways so you can pop 'em over your head or stretch lengthways like a normal scarf. The fabric is like a long haired chenille, and really really soft. You can get gloves and hats in them too, they are usually found in places like Poundland as well
Olly
Olly, I will be sorting through the gifts I received and getting rid of equivalent items I already have, I do this with clothes too. That way you shouldn't in theory, accumulate any junk That is a really good plan, I also like the 'something every week' idea. Gosh, £200 for EVERYTHING ... I don't think I could manage on that, even for just one person. I am going to start writing everything down in a notebook - always helps. Martin B
I'd like to do it, but I need to buy a beehive and bee suit so it is out of the window. I'll just do the 'do I really need it?' thing.

I'll just do the 'do I really need it?' thing. I am sure it could come under 'work related items' Martin I started being thrifty at around your age, and managed to buy a house on my own with the proceeds of my thriftyness, and on a low wage too. I am sure you are not the sort of person to fritter your money away unnecessarily anyway Martin (on things like Baileys perchance? ) you appear to have an old head on your young shoulders

Cate in NZ
Good luck with this all of you, it sounds like a great idea I simply must reduce some of my clutter and after February will be on a seriously reduced income (already having panic attacks about how I'm going to cope ) so I'm trying to think my way around whether I can seriously sign up to this. I may need to be a little creative with some of the allowed categories.............both of my children need new school shoes before the start of term, and I can't find the time to fit in a shopping expedition this side of the New Year, and I can't ever imagine daughter wearing second hand clothes, she's a bit of a fashion victim I'm afraid, and generally speaking by the time an item hits Oxfam it's no longer current teenage fashion
Egluntyne
I thought you were going abroad next year? All you will need is a bottle of Ambre Solaire, a toothbrush and a couple or three bikinis.
Olly
The original post does say 'School supplies for children' and 'Utility/work clothing' are allowed.

Couperwife
do you really think that buying shoes will be acceptable in this situation I teach, and I am on my feet all day, therefore flat, comfy shoes are the way to go...... but I know I will need those purple boots, some pink sparkly shoes and definitely some high heels with beads on them I will really be pushing it to get those in the "work clothes" section but I will certainly try cathy x

Oh and you simply HAVE to go to the prom this year!!!

All you will need is a bottle of Ambre Solaire, a toothbrush and a couple or three bikinis. I'll be pretty chilly with only that lot.................I go in late June, deepest, darkest midwinter down under But it's because of the move that I must stop buying things, it's going to cost us a small fortune transporting all our worldly possessions half way across the world, if I could reduce some of our clutter it might help a bit too. Of course I will need to start shopping again in July.................I'll have a new home to furnish, decorate or tweak to my satisfaction

Charlottechicken
I think Martin is right. Absolutely no foodstuffs, seeds, plants etc. The same for Australia. It's just us who let everyone and everything in There is an urban myth about wasps in New Zealand but I don't remember the detail
