Do you like my Christmas Tree?

Recommended Posts

Louise, when I worked for S&N, all us managers were contracted as 'hours as required', and it was a nightmare! You can't leave a pub without a manager, so if you were in a pub with a management team of two then, if the other was sick, or on holiday, then you had to be in 8:30am till whenever - 1am was normally the earliest closing time, so you'd be looking at a 2am bedtime at the earliest, then back in for 8:30am again! You have such a long drive home, you need to get it sorted!

That is the problem Shona

I have one person who is a nightmare for sickness and she is off again now and the rest of the team are strugging

I have one person 'damaged' he broke his thumb and is on light duties so can't do any weekend work or physical stuff during the day which just leaves 3 of us to do everything else

Might be useful in more ways than one Clare

I know I need to have a word because this is stretching right through Christmas/New Year and an end is nowhere in sight

I don't think you'd be unrealistic to ask for an idea of how long it is going to last - can you imagine the havoc it would wreak if you had children? they can't treat you any differently from someone who has.. just because you're available and willing (to work, I mean! )

One of the staff does have children but at the moment I have parents which is arguably the same ie dependants relying on me to be there :?

I have just spoke to HR and we are to have a meeting at some point in the next few days

It is going to be like this till at least April but because I never know what is around the corner it could be longer

Oh dear Louise, doesn't sound good :? Why is your guy with the broken thumb not working weekends? He might have a few restrictions on what he can do physically, but that shouldn't dictate what hours he can work. And working too many hours in a specialised role is a risk to health and safety both for the workers and for those who might be affected by any mistakes made. You can ask them to undertake a risk assessment of the process, or do it yourself if you know how and put it in writing to them. Oh dear, I'll get off my soapbox now.
