Louise
Louise, when I worked for S&N, all us managers were contracted as 'hours as required', and it was a nightmare! You can't leave a pub without a manager, so if you were in a pub with a management team of two then, if the other was sick, or on holiday, then you had to be in 8:30am till whenever - 1am was normally the earliest closing time, so you'd be looking at a 2am bedtime at the earliest, then back in for 8:30am again! You have such a long drive home, you need to get it sorted! That is the problem Shona I have one person who is a nightmare for sickness and she is off again now and the rest of the team are strugging I have one person 'damaged' he broke his thumb and is on light duties so can't do any weekend work or physical stuff during the day which just leaves 3 of us to do everything else
The Dogmother
Might be useful in more ways than one Clare I know I need to have a word because this is stretching right through Christmas/New Year and an end is nowhere in sight I don't think you'd be unrealistic to ask for an idea of how long it is going to last - can you imagine the havoc it would wreak if you had children? they can't treat you any differently from someone who has.. just because you're available and willing (to work, I mean! )
Louise
One of the staff does have children but at the moment I have parents which is arguably the same ie dependants relying on me to be there I have just spoke to HR and we are to have a meeting at some point in the next few days It is going to be like this till at least April but because I never know what is around the corner it could be longer
The Dogmother
Oh dear! Is there any way of getting extra staff in to help? I know it's very specialised... If they're exhausted, staff will start making mistakes, which isn't good in your field.
Louise
I think we will either have to get a new post or consider agency staff
Egluntyne
And employers wonder why staff take a month off with stress related illnesses. If you are so exhausted that you are falling asleep at the wheel.....you need time off. They would soon enough find a "locum" if they had to. Snowy
Oh dear Louise, doesn't sound good Why is your guy with the broken thumb not working weekends? He might have a few restrictions on what he can do physically, but that shouldn't dictate what hours he can work. And working too many hours in a specialised role is a risk to health and safety both for the workers and for those who might be affected by any mistakes made. You can ask them to undertake a risk assessment of the process, or do it yourself if you know how and put it in writing to them. Oh dear, I'll get off my soapbox now. Trish
On the riddle point, they have diffferent birth months because they are identical twins but not with each other. They are two halves of two sets of twins
Louise
At the weekend there are a number of jobs he can't do Snowy so he would be useless there are two of us in from 8 till about 3.30 and we are on the go the whole time, if one was unable to do 3/4 of the work it would just make it harder for the other
