Egluntyne
Did you get his taxi license number? You could report the matter to the licensing section of your local council. Was it the actual licensed driver at the wheel I wonder.
Charlottechicken
Was it the actual licensed driver at the wheel I wonder. Makes you wonder if that is why he's trying to pin it on Clare, all the shouting, makes me believe he has something to hide, but then I am suspicious of most things He might not even have a licence, could be banned, and could have given a false name. Clare can you take a pic of him as you jog past?
The Dogmother
Sorry girls, I wasn't massively clear at the start - he wasn't actually driving his cab at the time, but I know him to be a local cabbie, also the drive at the address he give is full of cabs (4) from a local firm. On an internet search, I can't actually turn up a name for that address at all. I have his mobile number though and Phil is contemplating ringing it and asking for his address.! Not wanting to cast nasturtiums here, but it is not unknown in toen for cab drivers to home in on female drivers, ram their vehicle, then leap out shouting about liaibility and claiming injury. I don't think that this was the case here - he just wasn't looking, drove carelessly and cut the corner at speed while looking away from the road. But it does serve to illustrate the mentality and compensation culture that exists in this area (and others). I shall be sure to pop by his house several times today - it's on a major rat-run, so it's no problem.
Egluntyne
You could find out who actually owns the house by doing a **Land Registry** search. Will cost you three quid. His name might come up.....if he isn't renting the property.
Charlottechicken
I've used that Egluntine, really interesting! Yuo could of course just fire off his details to the DWP fraud investigators, he may be on the benefit fiddle too.
The Dogmother
Thanks for the links ladies - proper sherlocks you are. I am determined not to waste too much time, or any money on this. I now have some from from the dispute section of my insurers; I will complete these and send them back with a letter and photos detailing my refusal to accept any liability for this. I suspect that he might not actually live at the address that his insurers gave me. Without a name, I can't get a landline number for that address, but I do have what he gave me as his mobile number What I'd really like is a photo of the scuff on his bumper so that I can send it to my insurers when I send in the form. Guest
most car insurers include a free legal advice line with your policy, have you used that to make sure you've done everything you can to cover your back?
ubereglu
From what you've said Clare he sounds really dodgy. Have you checked the DVLA website? I know that you can do registration number checks on the website. Hope that helps and you get it sorted soon. Liz
chelsea
just caught up online. Sorry to see Clare that another numpty has bashed your car! Hope its not too bad and thank goodness it wasnt too serious. These silly people
The Dogmother
Well, the good news is that Phil managed to take photos of damage to his car - not unchallenged though - a person came out and started on him, but as the car was parked in the street, Phil explained that he was entitled to take the photos. It turns out that his other wing on the front is badly damaged, so he might be making a habit of 'driving badly' I now have preliminary forms to fill out from the legal arm of my insurers, and will send in diagrams and pictures with my accompanying letter. Thank you all for your concern - I will keep you posted. A friend made me laugh this afternoon - she said 'it's not as if your van isn't visible from space - how come people keep banging into it?' Egluntyne
It's green isn't it Claret. Green cars are reputed to be unlucky. Not that I'm superstitious or anything. Please excuse any mistakes but it is very difficult to type with crossed fingers whilst throwing salt over my shoulder........and this damned rabbit's foot keeps getting in the way. The Dogmother
Well so far (touches wood) it has been fine, just that in the last month there must've been something wrong with it's planetary alignments - it has been a magnet for eejit drivers! I once had an unlucky car - it was red - it seemed like most of the road users were drawn to it! I sold the jonah....
ubereglu
Well that's something I suppose. It does at least mean that you have evidence to post to your insurers. Hopefully your lovely green berlingo will be luckier in 2008. Berlingo's aren't usually magnets for rubbish drivers...(touch wood) ours hasn't yet been hit or anything...it was nearly though on the way back from a music lesson to get petrol, but never mind. The Dogmother
Well, I haven't heard anything more from either his insurers or the accident sharks - let's hope that he realises that I am taking this seriously and is withdrawing his claim. *crosses fingers*
