chocchick
Wow "You’ll see class members learning to train chickens to do mini-agility obstacles (including contacts and weave poles) and many other behaviors." Mine will come to me for food, but run away if I merely try to touch them. Sounds quite advanced stuff.
Ain't Nobody Here
Was it Westie who had problems with squirrels? Train your chickens and the squirrels won't get a look in .

Ain't Nobody Here
That's what I like about this forum . It's a whole new social life where it doesn't matter what you wear/whether you've washed your hair/put makeup on . That's my kind of night out . Leicester_H
The DVD's arrived !! Not quite what I was expecting (although I don't really know what I was expecting) Watched half of it yesterday. Its basically footage of a course that they run. about 10 (?) people on course and are shown how to do clicker training. Its a bit repetitive and many ofthe people aren't doing what they were told to do, so some of it is a waste of time. I rather expected it would be one or more experts showing you how to do it. The course provides the chicken which are all VERY docile. Thet can all be picked up and put on a table (by complete starngers) and they wait patiently to be trained. This is NOT like my 2 - maybe mine are too old for this now ?? Anyway, I'll up date you if/when I make any progress. Anyone else got their copy yet ? WitchHazel
I've got mine, and have watched most of it. The people on the course are really there to learn to do clicker training with their dogs, and the chickens are used to help them learn & practice the technique so they don't ruin their dogs training with bad habits. I was surprised at the number of people who were clearly not following the Trainer's instructions, and were not being corrected. Maybe that was because they were filming. After watching the first half hour, I stopped until I had purchased a clicker. I then continued watching. Although it isn't specifically filmed as a way of trining the viewer to do clicker training for chickens, it's pretty easy to pick up and understand the important details and nuances. So far I've "mastered" the clicking and showing the empty cup, but I need to find a better receptacle for when I do it with feed in. I'm expecting to have myself clicker trained by the time the chickens arrive so that I can then try training them from the beginning. I tried clicker training one of the cats, but she seemed to get a bit distressed by the clicker. And my DH got fed up with it. Overall, I think it's OK, but I do think it's a lot of money to have paid for a fairly amateurish quality DVD.
Leicester_H
I was surprised at the number of people who were clearly not following the Trainer's instructions, and were not being corrected. Yes - I think the partners were supposed to coach each other. The rules were simple enough - they just seemed dim !! Overall, I think it's OK, but I do think it's a lot of money to have paid for a fairly amateurish quality DVD. Yes - that was my view. Perhaps WE'LL have to make an omlet version when we're expertly running classes !!?? H
