Ain't Nobody Here
I'm still waiting for the phone-in to get back to chickens (sad story about a missing teenager ) but did you hear the guy "on a low-income" saying it's not important, they're "only chickens", it's not like they're cats or dogs. Lesley
Yes, I did - he ahd a cat on his lap as he spoke.......... so he finds it acceptable to feed a pet rather than pay slightly more for food for his family........ and perhaps have to think about the life of all animals. Guest
Yes, I did - he ahd a cat on his lap as he spoke.......... so he finds it acceptable to feed a pet rather than pay slightly more for food for his family........ and perhaps have to think about the life of all animals. Sit him down with some videos of cats being prepared for the pot in certain parts of the world, I've seen them! Then show him some of the battery farm videos on you tube and ask him how he can make the distinction. he wound me up so much, never mind a cat on your knee, my chickens sit on MY knee mate! Ain't Nobody Here
, my chickens sit on MY knee you never said - he had a cat on his lap as he spoke I was waiting for him to say "obviously, you'd never have a chicken on your lap". What does he know .

Guest
I turned off after the that chap. I'd had enough. don't blame you, the show is formatted very oddly. Bits of chicken stuff interspersed with other items. Still, it was worth saying

I kept thinking the chicken bit was over.....and then we'd come back to it.

Cate in NZ
I was at work today, so missed it all . I'll try to listen to the podcast link in a few minutes though. I get massively irritated about people putting such low priority on their food though, not just chicken (although of course cheap chicken and eggs are very close to my heart and really get me ). But there's a huge sector of our society who will eat anything as long as it's cheap and they don't have to do anything to prepare it. And I'm talking about both those who are from a poor income, poorly educated sector and those who are educated, cash rich, time poor. As long as it fills a hole, and goes "ping" in a microwave many people will eat it. I get so disheartened, but I think that these days its trendier to spend your time watching celeb chefs cooking on the TV than to actually get off bottoms and use those skills in your own kitchen. I find it so depressing Somehow I don't think that HFW will make me feel any better tonight, here's hoping I'm wrong. But the apathy of the average British consumer
One Man Banned
I feel a bit annoyed listening to the podcast. If it's such an issue for those people who are on "low income" then make the lifestyle choice to not eat this cheap chicken if you can't afford it. Still, the "Media Manager" from Tesco's was a bit wet wasn't he On a positive side, at least Jane got her point across clearly - stressing that it's the consumer driving this situation not just the farmer.
