Clur
I hold my hands up to what is possibly a daft question, but I've read a lot on here about a chicken's crop - where is it and how can I tell if it's full? I don't have any problems with the girls eating (nearly lost my fingers giving them some sweetcorn earlier ), but curious to know and learn! Thanks
Egluntyne
Ta daa!! You can see the position of the crop easily at the end of the day....if it is full the hen had a lop sided bosomy look. A bit like Ann Widdecombe.
Ain't Nobody Here
A bit like Ann Widdecombe. But a lot prettier . (Sorry Ann ). A full crop can't be missed - give them a stroke at bedtime and you'll feel a large soft pouchy thing on their chest. You can feel the corn & grit etc in it! Clur
Ah, fantastic thank you! I'll look out for the Ann Widdecombe impressions (does that mean they'll dye their feathers blonde?)

Tiggy
thats great, I'm new to this & thought the crop was in the throat somewhere, stupid!!!!!!!
jomaxsmith
You know, it's amazing how I often come on here to find the answer to a question that someone has just asked! My hens have been free ranging and had a massive bowl of treats earlier. Lily has an enormous lopsided bulge on the left of her chest and I was a bit worried about the size and position of it. The forum has allayed my worries, thanks! Jo
