tenzin
I have some eggs in the incubator , and had the temp at 37.2 for the first 3 days . I have now incresed it to 37.6 , will they be o.k ?
little chickadee
Oooh how exciting. I'd love to do that! (no idea about the answer to the question though Tenzin - sorry!)
bronze
The norm is 37.5 so that will be fine. They can cope with odd periods of coolness but don't cook them. My incubator is very basic so I'm always varying between the 37.3 to 37.7 marks. Remember to keep an eye on the humidity too expecially in the last few days. tenzin
The humidity was difficult at first , but like all things " easy when you know how Got it all working a dream now " Temp 37.6 and humidity between 30% and 35% . Has anyone else raised a few chicks before ? If so what sort and what problems did you have in the first couple of weeks when they hatched ? feemcg
I did 6 hatchings last year (once I started I couldn't stop ). I try to keep the temp at 37.4 but it sometimes fluctuates a little. I read it's better if it sits at the lower end of 'normal' than the higher.
tenzin
Thanks , i'll drop it to 37.4 then
feemcg
I didn't have a lot of problems - one with splayed legs, and one that died a few hours old with breathing probs . Apart from that it was great fun but after a couple of weeks you're desperate to get them outside because of the dander - everything gets covered in a layer of fluffy dust . Give me a shout if you've got any queries What breeds do you have in? How many? Have you got a candler?
tenzin
Thanks , i have a candler , but wouldn't know where to look ATM , have some light sussex eggs . What is DANDER ??
bronze
Its the fluff they spread everywhere when they grow their proper frathers. For me that wasnt a worry but I did keep them on hemcore. I'm still finding bits in my utility a year later. If you've had yours in 3 days then our hatches should happen around the same time. I have 24 quail in at the mo, my first quail hatch, very exciting.
