CatsCube
I just wondered which of your breeds lays the darkest colour yokes or are they all much the same? My Wyandotte always lays eggs with really dark orange yokes. a lot more than all the others even though they are all kept together and have the same diet. Anyone else have this? Snowy
My gold campine lays pure white eggs with a really rich yellow yolk - hers are always the best eggs!
Christian
I heard they need dark green feed to produce really orange yolks. Mine get a handful of spinach/swiss chard a few times a week.
Cinnamon
Yes, I agree - feeding mine spinach gives a really orangey yolk
Egluntyne
Ditto. Some feeds have a yolk enhancer in it. Not a dye exactly. Marigold extract or somesuch.
chickencam
Mine eat a lot of cabbage and cauliflower leaves and they give good colour and Eggy has a liking for woodlice and her eggs are the tastiest , closely followed by Bertha's
