compost for potatoes in a tub

Recommended Posts

Just keep topping up the soil over the green shoots, seems odd but really does increase your harvest :D

I only found out why from reading my GYO magazine the other day

The potatoes grow on thin stalks that develop from the main stem, not on the roots (which is where you would expect). So, if you're growing in a tub, it's best not to fill it up with compost at the start - just put enough in for the plant to grow a decent root system, and leave as much space as you can for earthing up, and you'll get lots more spuds!
