The Bantam of the Opera
my dad is really not an animal person, hates my dog and rats and all other animals i enjoy keeping, but even he has to admit he really likes the chickens, theyre so funny to watch hes always watching whilst he works and is even letting me expand my flock despite the fact i have 2 roosters. if my dad likes chickens ill bet yours will too! the eggs taste amazing too! Good Luck!!
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
my hubby didnt want chickens either, but i stood my ground and now have 3 with an additional 2 coming this week. all i can say is that since we've had them they have given us hours of pleasure - they are so characteristic and lovely. the neighbours love the chickens and we often have them poking their heads over the wall to look. they dont make much noise only when laying. but the eggs you will get will be amazing and the best quality that you have ever tasted. Ain't Nobody Here
Wow, how brilliant . See, we told you he'd come round . Loads of people use * hemcore * (there is a list of distributors on the website) or * aubiose *. They're much the same, it just depends who stocks which near you. Both are good for the run and shredded paper is good (it's free!) for the nestbox (and poop tray, although not essential, you can use sheets of newspaper). Keep us posted on the chickens and let's see some photos of your fab new pink eglu .
Snoxy
FANTASTIC NEWS Our chickens arrived on Tuesday so I am a novice but I can tell you that I use 4/5 sheets newspaper in the droppings tray and shredded paper in the nest box at the moment and it seems to be absolutely fine...I renew the newspaper every day...takes a couple of minutes I am using wood chips in the run and they're great Really looking forward to letting our girls out on Sat evening Have loadsa fun Well done you! Very best wishes to you all. Edited April 11, 2008 by Guest
Flo
Congratluations IrsihChick that is so exciting for you! There are lots of posts on the forum about bedding etc. I use straw in the nest box and aubiose in the run and poo tray. Most horse suppliers have it as it is used as horse bedding. Hemcore is another brand. My Aunt and Uncle live in Holywood, the way N. Ireland is you probably know them! I'll ask them if they have seen any chickens lately! Good luck with the chickens Flo
Pookylover
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! Good for you! It took me a while to wear my husband down! He brought me all the things I needed in the end and we collect them on Sunday! Don't forget the photos! Clare x
peanut12
Congratulations Irishchick. Really pleased for you. And well done Dad! The only problem now will be Dad pttering about trying to invent new things for them to sit on, peck at etc. I swore I wouldn't do it - but the force is strong with these chickens. I can't help myself! I'm now thinking of a smallholding when we retire (which is many years away) it's so addictive.
