umbrella thursday
So excited and just had to share. It's in the living room and daughter is using the box as a house. Just got to get the chickens to go with it now. Hope to do this next Monday, once we've got it set up. One question - the ground I'm hoping to put it on is a bit wobbly - I have ordered extra run pegs - do you think these will do the job OK and will my chooks be safe from foxes this way? Thanks
PennyTikkaNoodles
I dug up a hilly (and thick clay!) part of the garden at the side of our house and created a bordered area that I laid to bark chippings. When our Eglu arrived yesterday everything had frozen solid. I got the rake on the bark and broke it up a bit. Where the ground was a bit bumpy and the cage not lying flat I put a brick on top for the time being (I was in my work clothes and didn't want to get too dirty). The chap who delivered the Eglu and our girls suggested using a couple of ordinary tent pegs to help it lie flat. I'm going to wait until the weekend when we can let the girls out before I make a couple of modifications to make the cage lie a little flatter and look a little neater (ie more blooming digging!). This should make the run more secure - although I'm 100% confident that nothing can get to the chooks (apart from my 3 kids!). Paul
clucky1
Have fun building ! - We got ours in the summer and my two daughters wouldn't let me get rid of the boxes for about 2 months as it was 'their den'.
umbrella thursday
Funny you should say that, Clucky - my daughter has just made a nest/house in the big box, I can see that staying in our living room for quite some time. Thanks for the advice PTN
HasSumAmi
One question - the ground I'm hoping to put it on is a bit wobbly - I have ordered extra run pegs - do you think these will do the job OK and will my chooks be safe from foxes this way? Thanks Congratulations! We''ve just got ours last week. It came with chooks though. Our ground is really bumpy and haven't got time to really sort it out right now, so we just went round with loads of tent pegs. (Had an onld tent so had plenty). Probably went a bit overboad to be honest and it's going to be a real pain to get them out and then move it, but thought it best to be safe rather than sorry. iChicken
The ground where our Eglu sits is uneven and on a slight slope both top to bottom and side to side, we used tent pegs which have kept it firmly rooted to the ground so far. lisa33
The screw in run pegs are great. We have got them on our run and nothing can get under them. Although we have to take them all out next week to take the eglu and run to my mum's. That might be quite difficult.

MedusA
The screw in run pegs are great. We have got them on our run and nothing can get under them. Although we have to take them all out next week to take the eglu and run to my mum's. That might be quite difficult. I can vouch for the screw in run pegs too. They are brilliant for securing the run over all sorts of bumps and lumps. They are not too difficult to get out again using the gadget supplied, but you will get dirty fingernails! Good luck when your girls arrive umbrella thursday!
