The Dogmother
An update from us: Rosie hasn't used shampoo now since we started (lost track of when that was) and her hair looks fantastic - soft, shiny and swingy - but then she's only 8 and hasn't got those nasty adult oils yet I am mostly just rinsing (no vinegar or other stuff), I have had the odd shampoo (mostly after having the colour done),a nd sometimes use a bit of conditioner on the ends. It looks and feels fine, takes less time to dry and is less fluffy.
Guest
Well done Clare! Maybe it isn't so hard with short hair then? Certainly the men don't seem to have had a problem at all. My two younger children are doing wonderfully too.
The Dogmother
I think you're right about the length of hair as I haven't had the grease problem yet at all. Perhaps men are just less fussy about the state of their hair I sometimes use spray-on conditioner on Rosie's hair when she's been swimming and it's dry. I need touse less gunk on mine now that I'm not shampooing it. Don't know if it's my imagination, but Rosie hasn't had any head lice since we started rinsing
Guest
Don't know if it's my imagination, but Rosie hasn't had any head lice since we started rinsing Don't speak too soon! July is a bad month for them! Still, I hope you're right - that would be a huge benefit and a wonderful selling-point!
Guest
massage in a beaten egg I am wondering if this might help those with shorter hair. Merryn, you can be our guinea pig next time you need to wash! We'll await your report with much interest! Ginette, does this mean I have to use one of my precious eggs that Henna is giving us?

Guest
I guess you haven't built up a steady supply yet Merryn. Are you still buying eggs? Sorry - I've become a bit complacent now! I haven't bought any since before Christmas and if I run out, I just wait until I have some more. I'm really lucky to get 3 most days.
The Dogmother
Lesley kindly gave me some when I had four broodies and was running short.
Merryn
We are only getting one egg a day at the moment - Penna hasn't started to lay yet - and hubby had 2 fried this morning. I am trying not to buy, so the thought of cracking one over my head and then swilling it down the basin drain is a bit tough! But I will give it a go - later on! Sheilaz
Used bicarb again today & have "just washed look" hair. I'm more confident now, and more able to predict how it will be each day. How's everyone else doing?
Linda
You really have come through the worst part, by the sound of things. You didn't give up when it felt difficult, so all credit to you for sticking with it! I think you should feel very proud of yourself!
Merryn
2 weeks in and I am getting used to hair that doesn't feel sqeaky clean when I vinegar rinse it but it styles well and feels fairly soft and shiny. I am a definite convert at the moment. Might have to buy some eggs to condition it though as Hubby has put his foot down over me using one of Henna's! Guest
I did another vinegar rinse followed by egg conditioner yesterday. It came up beautifully! Well done Merryn. I think the second week was quite hard and then it seemed to settle down and we all felt complacent. Weeks 5-7 were really hard! I hope you have a good fortnight too! Merryn
Just done the bicarb treatment and it is wonderful! Really clean feeling hair and when dry it's bouncy and shiny I'm so relieved as we are going out to lunch for my mother's birthday and I wanted it to look nice. Louise
It's a mum thing Mine looks pretty miserable just now as I washed it and tied it straight up so I have the whole crystal tips with some ringlets look - so not good must take it down and brush it before I go out

Louise
Gladly Sheila Like all people with curly hair I would like straight Actually once I had put a comb throught it, it looked fine it was just as it had dried into some ringlets and some not it looked a bit odd I actually can't believe how soft it is now I am using a little conditioner on the ends at the mo as it is getting rinsed so much but only on the very tips and it doesn't get to stay on very long The fact that I can even get a comb through it these days is amazing it used to require an industrial strength brush before and I have broken the handle of quite a few over the years as well
Guest
I am still rinsing in vinegar and conditioning with egg twice a week. My hair is clean, glossy, healthy and growing fast. I am thrilled with it and really don't care if this is my new method of washing my hair for ever! But, I feel I must keep the goal in mind and I'm wondering how to 'let go' and move towards just water. I think I am going to try to 'wash' just once a week from now on and rinse in water in between. I have no idea if this will be possible, but I'll see how I get on. I can always use oatmeal if I need to. I have LOADS of oatmeal left, so that really wasn't an expensive thing to do either! Sheilaz
That's great Ginette. I'm finding that the bicarb is the thing that makes me feel clean again, but only need it once a fortnight. In fact, I could have lasted longer than 2 weeks, but did it today because of Omlet meet tomorrow! So, I think mine is becoming very settled. I only haven't been doing egg or even vinegar recently because I haven't had a minute to myself to experiment. Like you, I feel happy that I always have the oatmeal on standby if necessary, and I'm still on the original 60p bag. How long have we done, I've forgotten? Oh, this morning with the bicarb, I wore goggles in the shower!! I'm so glad LSH didn't bring me a coffee at that stage! I just wondered if the bicarb was affecting my eyes, they've been sore & uncomfortable, and when you think how it dries the hair! Still, the goggles were then in the way, so not very good rinse I wish mine was growing fast, I even feel as if it's shrinking!
Guest
So Sheila, do you do anything between the two-weekly bicarb? If not, then you are doing really well and should be able to start stretching the two weeks to 17 days, 20 days etc. Eventually (hopefully) you should find you have forgotten to do anything! Good luck tomorrow with the exhibition! I'm sure that you will feel a bit of an exhibit at times!
Sheilaz
I'm sure I'll make an exhibition of myself! Well, this is the first time that I've lasted that long without interim measures, so it must be stabilising well now. However, it wasn't perfect for 2 weeks! It wasn't great when I saw you last week, after all. I would have done something at that stage but, as you know, I only just made the escape as it was, let alone play with vinegar etc. It was a lovely feeling that I felt relaxed to see you, and KateA & LJ, looking forward to it more than thinking about my hair. I would have done a quick oatmeal, but it goes terrible if it rains, and my it did rain. So, nothing, & it wasn't great, but by 10 days it was improving not worsening. I think we will end up widening the gaps between treatments, until they're hardly needed. I still find just water leaves my hair lank & worse than not rinsing though. Eventually, even when settled, I think I will still use our bicarb/vinegar occasionally, just to feel it's lifting the dirt.
