Right Girls - Hair washing and not doing it with shampoo

Recommended Posts

Perhaps I'll save natural body cleansing until I've finished with the hair one! :?

I'm just popping in to report that my hair has improved a lot since its last water rinse on Monday. On Monday evening it was so thick with grease that it was difficult to brush. Maybe it wasn't grease? Maybe the hairs were swollen with water?

Anyway, today it is even better. It doesn't feel so greasy and it doesn't look bad either. I'm not saying it looks good though, it doesn't! :(

I'll have decisions to make later in the week! I think it has to look all right for my afternoon at Buckingham Palace on Sunday! :P I may even resort to bicarb, which I haven't done for a very long time, possibly 2 months.

Well...i'm still in and to be honest quite i'm dissapointed with the whole thing. How many weeks are we all now :?: idon't know it must be 14/15 weeks and my hair just seems stuck. It's not good it's not bad, it seems to be quite dirty feeling most of the time. It's nearly three weeks since i last bi-carbed and it feels really ready for a rinse with something more than just vinegar. I was trying to give up the bi-carb but my hair feels greasy/dirty, i don't know what to do with it, a few weeks ago I thought we'd all cracked it :!:

And my scalp has gone flacky again :?:

Drop the bicarb and miss anything but water for a week, then begin with some vinegar rinsing.

I didn't use bicarb at all.

Hmm. . . I've only used water for 2 weeks now. I'm sure if I used shampoo the water would be black with grime! Yuk, yuk, yuk! I'm really trying but I need reassurance and quickly!

Why isn't it working yet HappyMama? 14-15 weeks now!

:? Bicarb was on the related link & it's the only thing I looked forward to at one stage! Vinegar doesn't do much for me.

Hang on in there, Ginette! I'm going for a "probably overdone the conditioner look" for summer. It's OK for casual, & I'm just using water, but I would give something extra for a special event, How about oatmeal for Sunday, Ginette? :)

PS. Mine took 4 hours to be nearly dry last time! It's a good sign of good condition. I'm happy that mine is clean though, it's "oily" but not in an unwashed greasy way, nor smelly. I hope. & it's tangle free which is amazing!

Thanks for the encouragement Sheila! :)

My hair is absolutely filthy and I think I will use bicarb tomorrow to be sure of it looking OK. I hope it works! I haven't done it for 2 months. I will probably use egg too to stop it getting too dry. I don't think oatmeal could deal with it well enough.

I am a little disappointed at the timing of this though. I have to admit that my hair doesn't FEEL dirty on my head after rinsing with hot water and in that sense I am managing. If it wasn't for my special event, I would persevere.

Having said that, I am feeling disheartened and unsure now. I can see that my hair is getting more and more dirty. I haven't used anything except water for 2 weeks. We're supposed to be free of this now and I feel like I'm in weeks 5 and 6 again! Does it really work? I'm not sure any more. :(

Ginette, You have such lovely long hair, surely you could put your hair up in a bun, or put it in a french plait for Sunday - it would seem silly to do something silly after such a long time!

Thanks Shona! It's really good having so much encouragement. :)

But really, my hair is SO dirty that even in a bun it looks and feels horrible. The hair is separating everywhere and looks too awful.

With all this encouragement though, I am feeling some courage returning and after a night's sleep, maybe I'll feel strong enough to try another water tomorrow and see what happens. If it's no good I could do vinegar (or bicarb) on Saturday. ( :? Twice in two days! )

I hope you'll all be watching The Queen's Handbag on Sunday afternoon. I'll be in the seated area, row U, which I hope isn't too far back! :? I saw Daniel Radcliffe on a TV advert today and J K Rowling will be there, so we're getting quite excited! :P:P DD3 is taking her autograph book and I'll have my camera. :P

Is that your opinion, or other peoples opinion?

Sometimes I think my hair looks terrible, now that I only wash it every 3-4 days, but my mum (never backwards in coming forwards), has NEVER thought my hair looks bad.

Even my husband concedes that it looks dirty. He's always really honest about it and doesn't expect 'salon' hair so if he says it looks dirty, then it does.

Tonight it feels dirty, which I really can't handle, so tomorrow I am doing something! But tonight I must get some sleep or I might not have any willpower tomorrow! If it weren't for that, I would post another picture to show you how bad it looks. It doesn't smell though! :)

Thanks so much for asking and taking an interest - it really helps! :)8)

I have decided to use bicarb this morning. Then I will be back on the water again. Sorry if you all think that's wrong, but I want it to be clean and I don't think anything else will work.

Is Louise the only person who thinks she's got there? She has curly hair like HappyMama. (I hope I'm right about that Louise!) I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

One of the rest of us needs a breakthrough so that the others are inspired to keep going.

Now I must remind myself how much bicarb to use . . .

:D I think that's a sensible move, Ginette. Use the bicarb to feel clean again & have a great weekend.

I'd love to have seen a photo of bad hair, because I think yours prob. looks better than mine, but because I have a quiet week or 2 socially, I'm not too bothered.

I think I might be nearly there, but only if I accept that it never really has a just washed look. So, it's flat & sleek instead of dry & flyaway. But will only be happy when all the "old" hair has been cut away, below shoulders looks really scraggy/ The top is OK, just very silky smooth, which sounds good, but isn't really me! Not wild enough.

So, don't overdo the bicarb..2tsp. in one pint water is plenty.

I have just spent an hour reading through the first 40 pages, looking for quantities! Interesting reading though! :)

Off to bicarb now! Feeling quite excited at the thought of having really clean hair, not just OK hair! :P I haven't done this for 8 weeks, so it's unfamiliar again. :)

8) I know it's prob. still drying, but has the bicarb done the trick? I'm thinking of booking a hair cut...maybe 2 ins which is a bit radical for me. But, I'm going to arrange to have just a cut, no wash, & I'll arrive with it damp to make cutting easier. I'm scared, wish me luck.

How's everyone else doing? Rosie & Louise looking fab of course, Anne and Aylana any better? Merryn, are you in still?

It has dried quite quickly and certainly looks clean. There may be a shine coming out slowly, not sure yet. But the ends are frizzier (what a lovely word!) than usual because it is a bit dry. It isn't as heavy as it has been of late either, which is nice.

It'll do for Sunday, which is what I wanted. :)

Meeting Peter in London today after work. I wonder if he'll notice a difference?

Curly hair is usually quite dry because the curls make it hard for oils to travel down the hairshaft from the scalp.

Mine's straight for 99.9% of the time, though.

Soapnuts work well in the washing machine, too.

Ginette, sorry you're having such problems! Try a vinegar wash maybe, and give it all a very good rub in before rinsing?

Ginette...i totally sympathise with you, mines just the same. I bi-carbed on monday but it just doesn't seem to work for very long anymore. My hair feels dirty most of the time and my scalp is getting really itchy.

I also feel like we're at the 5 weeks mark, but this time it's harder because we haven't got the target of 12 weeks to aim for and summer makes it harder because we're out and about more for people to see.

I'm also worrying about what Claret said, black hair water :!: thats just a terrible thought.

Sorry for all your hair woes, it's hardest time, when we need it to look good for an occasion.

Good to hear from you Anne. I feel like that too - like I'm back in week 5. (Did I say that before?) I too keep thinking about Claret's black water, which has made me more aware of how dirty my hair is. I didn't see any dirt today, but didn't look either in case I got bicarb in my eyes! But my hair is a different colour now!

HappyMama, it is good to hear from you too. I was thinking of sending you a PM asking for more individual guidance. But I can do it here and hope you read this soon!

In weeks 8-12, I settled into doing a vinegar rinse (followed by egg conditioner) twice a week. This was fine and I was quite happy with it. When I reached 13 weeks I decided I had to move on from this in order to achieve what you have. So for the last 12 days I have only rinsed in water. My hair has just got dirtier and dirtier to the point where it looked awful.

Did I do too much too soon? Perhaps I should cut down to one vinegar rinse a week first? What do you think?

And why does our hair look worse after rinsing with water than it did before?

Hope you have a great time Ginette - and also that your hair has settled down so that you feel comfortable. The Queen's Handbag is being televised at 6pm unless the football goes into extra time - in which case it will just be televised at the end of the football.

Yes, and we've been told if the football goes into extra time, the play will be delayed and we will just have to sit and wait!

Merryn, are you in still?

Yes, I'm here and I have great news: I did a vinegar rinse last Wed and then yesterday (Sat) I wanted it to look good for a concert I was singing in; I took a deep breath and washed in water and then blew dry as usual. It was fantastic! :D It now has a lot more body and looks thicker - wonderful for me as my hair was getting very thin. It is also soft and although it doesn't have that super shampooed smell, I am really satisfied.

This is 5½ weeks now and I hope I have cracked it but no doubt there will be bad hair days to come...

I think I have had it easier than some people as previously I only washed my hair about once a week anyway.

 Well, I've had a little while with just water, but decided that it was a stage too oily today, so did a vinegar rinse.

OH asked if I'd had a haircut....which I think may have been a compliment.

Trouble is, if it looks good today, it's prob.noticeable because it's been looking awful.

When I said, no, but I'm having it cut on Thursday, he was very, very quick to agree that it needed it. So, I think it may look terrible most of the time, but he daren't say so!

So, a delay in telling anybody, "Ooops, word censored!"ody here knows about the unshampooing.

Although, LSH did overhear me talking about hair at Burghley, not sure what he heard though

I'm moving onto once-a-week vinegar now. :? I bicarbed last Friday. Yesterday I just rinsed with water and my hair looks more shiny than it did before - maybe I didn't rinse out the bicarb enough. It is possibly a little close-fitting on top, but looks OK. I will vinegar on Friday, whatever its state as converting to just water straight away didn't work. :(
