Lesley
I don't know if anyone here is old enough to help out with this! I use Camp coffee for baking and also in Banana Smoothies and Carl has just asked - Didn't the Indian gentleman (on the label) used to be standing up and serving the British Officer and now he is sitting down with him drinking coffee? Has Camp Coffee gone PC?
SarahJo
Probably .. there was a big hooha about Robertsons , jams and marmalades a while back, and the Golliwogs .
Mrs Frugal
You should know to ask a 1940s housewife a question like that. Yes, it's changed. The Indian gentleman definitely used to serve the officer Camp coffee on a tray. I use it for baking too - much easier than making a cup of strong coffee because I have to sit down and drink one at the same time !
Nicola H
So thats what you do with camp coffee, use it in baking........My Nana always used to drink it and give me a taste as a child and it was horrible Yukk..................
Lesley
It makes great coffee icing and I love it in my smoothies, apart from that I don't drink coffee - perhaps a couple a year if it's proper stuff!
Mrs Frugal
It makes a smashing coffee walnut cake too!
Trish
My Mum used to drink it by the bucket when I was little and we were just talking about it the other day. I didn't know you could still get it and yes the Indian gentleman was standing before.
Sheilaz
Hi Lesley, Well spotted Carl! Amazing observation. I thought you were right but was going to check with Father, but Kate has confirmed it. Now I can ask him if he's noticed a difference; surprised he hasn't shown me already, or perhaps he hasn't bought a bottle for 30 years. He used to use it when making a great Chocolate Surprise Pudding which I still make occasionally. (The surprise is the sauce under the sponge) Yum. Might have to make one tomorrow now! Funny when I saw the topic title I wondered what the question would be! After all, the coffee hasn't changed its name, despite PC. At least the man is seated and not posing in a Larry Grayson, Julian Clary type stance.
Mrs Frugal
I make that chocolate surprise pudding but we call it by a different name - Oliver's Pudding because everyone wants "some more please"!. However, my son Oliver thinks it's a special pudding just for him!!
SarahJo
How about posting some of these recipes in the recipes topic, and revive it and us a little I can see sales of Camp rising already
Mrs Frugal
Good idea Sarah. I'll get the recipe book out!!

red
missed this thread originally (due to Hebe nursing probably) ... anyway just thought I'd chip in with my Camp Coffee tip ... Get a couple of scoops of ice cream Add some Camp Stir Hey Presto Coffee Ice Cream!! yum yum (this does soften the ice cream a bit but I suppose you could pop it back in the freezer for a few minutes once the Camp has been stirred in if you prefer)
Mrs Frugal
The thing about soft ice cream is that you have to eat it before it melts.......great isn't it ! I'll give the coffee ice cream a try this summer, Red. Sounds lovely.
Pogrsh
Camp coffee is really good mixed with crushed ice cubes, and ice cold milk to make an iced coffee too (with or without a dollop of ice cream)- perfect for these summery days!
red
yum! Home-made Frappe!
Lesley
I love both iced coffee and coffee ice cream. It must be like alcohol - I don't drink it but I can 'eat' it! I don't drink coffee very often (and never drink tea) I'll give those two a go!
