little chickadee
Most of her class went as High School Musical, they had the book of the film which i think is cheating. No one ever seems to go as a proper book character. Ditto with our school High School Musical was the order of the day I thought kids were reading more these days I think chosing something just because there is a book of the film is cheating too, but I guess not everyone has got the time or inclination to source book character clothes. Film related costumes are so easily bought from Woolies etc.
Ziggy
I'm not sure it's 'cheating', in the kids' minds... if they think of a character, and there is a book, no matter whether it was taken from a movie first, to them it's still a book character too... I was pleased that this year all mine came up with real book ideas, but most kids turn up as disney princesses in the younger classes... they enjoy it, and it sure is less work for the mums... I know what you mean by 'cheating', I understand the feeling... but I think it's best just to let the kids be whatever they choose... last year my DD1 was adament she'd go as a jedi knight and nothing else... she hates reading (how she can possibly be my daughter I do not know, a taste for reading is obviously not a genetic thing), so at least this let her enjoy the day and be something she liked... it didn't seem worth fighting over... ubereglu
Wish we still got to do things like this-Am in Year 10! I really liked dressing up as book characters for World Book Day, but our school doesn't do anything for it now and we haven't even been given the £1 book voucher this year or last. chickencam
you should find out what they do with the vouchers then because as far as I understand it you should get one but I am not sure my eldest is in yr 9 and she got one

ubereglu
I have 5! How did you end up with that many? Mind you, it's not that great to have that many as you're only allowed to use one per transaction.
bronze
ds2 who doesnt really like dressing up went as Thomas' driver. I got told I was cheating as it was a tv program which I thought was appalling.
ubereglu
If my Mum heard someone say that she'd scream...partly because she used to be a librarian but mostly because of Adam and his love of Rev. Audrey books. (She rejoiced the day when he learnt to read the books for himself!!!)
Yorkshire Pudding
I made a 'Horrid Henry' jumper - bought a cheap blue jumper and added a broad yellow stripe around it with bits from an old yellow T shirt. Stanley has loads of hair so with it 'scruffed up' he looked just the part. Our school held a 'bedtime story' day - if kids didn't want to go as a book character, they wore their pyjamas and slippers all day, as did the staff. In the afternoon all the Mums and Dads were invited to join them for a bedtime story. It was lovely!
