Coming Storm

Recommended Posts

Not too bad here so far, thank goodness! The pekins slept in the eglu with the others last night, but I brought them into the conservatory first thing this morning and put them in their cage, as they were hiding in the eglu and I was worried they wouldn't get anything to eat or drink all day. The other three were just pacing up and down the run, wanting to be let out

I can see that this integration is going to go rather slower than the last one...

My poor girls how down hearted they look we have had to take the plastic from the sides so that the run stands some kind of chance of staying up even though we have tied it down. They rushed out this morning and was met by a huge gust of wind and they run back up the gang plank into the house. i have put food in there for them and left the other out for them in case they decide to brave it  . My husband says i am fussing round them too much  quail and rabbits ok they are in the summer house, in fact at 6am they were having a dust bath like it was the height of summer :D

I was out last night taping newspaper over the largest ventilation holes (did leave a couple open) as I hoped to keep the majority of the wind out. But this morning the rain had disintegrated the newspaper and just the tape was left on the cube

My new girls (ex batts that I rehomed on Saturday) didn't venture out much at all, I am a little worried that they havent eaten enough today, but I'm sure they will not starve themselves!!

If its still bad tomorrow I will bring them into the shed and put hay on the floor with their food and water so that they can stay dry and feed too.

Hope everyone has managed to escape ant damage today!

After the 2 years of ear bending to get my girls, it was my hubby who got up in the night to check they hadn't taken off towards Eastbourne  !! He got back into bed muttering "I didn't really check on the hens, ok?" I stifled a  and snuggled further under the duvet. They were slightly later being let out this morning, as I didn't fancy doing the dawn dash in my wellies and dressing gown as the rain came at me horizontal fashion!

All 3 girls seem to have enjoyed the less blowy weather today, and just take themselves back to the eglu when it gets a bit worse. Their knickers really fluff out when a gust gets up and under them

Well have just seen the weather forecast and they are predicting 80mph winds for me overnight  , but i hope its wrong and not as bad as they say. As soon as this is over that plastic is back on so they can enjoy a comfortable forage!!!!

But one thing we are going to do is make a border all the way around the run and plant it with laurel and goldcrest so that it acts as some kind of windbreak for next time the plastic has to come off.
