WitchHazel
Every day I go out and give the chooks some treats, and every day I come back in laughing at something they've done. Well. Today I decided towork Delilah. The other two dont' need doing for another few months, but Delilah is due. I measured out 1g of Flubenvet (thank you to whoever did that calculation), cut up some grapes, and cunningly dipped two halves in the Flubenvet. Delilah is Top Chook and is also Greediest Chook, so this would be easy. Into the run, rang thebell, they all came running. Threw half agrape for each of them. Delilah looked at hers, and then ignored it, trying instead to get her head in the Treat Tin. Lydia and Scarlett pecked theirs, but then gave up. I thought it was The Law that chickens ate grapes? Anyway, I stuffed the remaining, unlaced, grapes into their Swingball, along with last nights cabbage leaves. I'll try grapes again tomorrow...but I'll also try lacing some sweetcorn kernels for Delilah instead of the grapes. Chickens
Eyren
Nope, never could persuade my Speckledy that grapes were treats. Only thing that's pretty much guaranteed to be appreciated is tinned sweetcorn!
clucky1
I must admit my little darlings can be very fussy eaters at times. What they like one day they may not like the next. ( a bit like my kids too) I usually put the powder into raisins and give to the chickens (not the children.
WitchHazel
Yes, they definitely love tinned sweetcorn. A couple of days ago - the first time I tried them with sweetcorn kernels - I put some at the bottom of the Trat Tin, and covered it with mixed corn. The girls knew it was there, and Delilah-the-Pig was shooshing the mixed corn out to get to the kernels. They just crack me up. Every time I go and give them treats I come away laughing. jomaxsmith
Mine love anything small and round. Yesterday I was evil and threw just one cherry tomato in the garden. Lily was first to it, but of course couldn't put it down to eat it without the others getting it. They chased round the garden for ages - cruel but really funny! Egluntyne
I never had any luck dosing grapes ....I would end up with 3 seriously overdosed chooks and 5 with none. Sweetcorn worked a treat.....they all got some!
