cooked or raw sweetcorn - advice please

Recommended Posts

:D You are all so helpful. Have just finished giving the cube it's first clean, so will go out now and give them their corn!

On another subject - does anyone here use poultry shield to clean with :?: Once cube is clean can you just spray some on the roosting bars and leave it to dry or does it have to be rinsed off?

it's funny to hear someone else "plants" the corn on the cob. . .you use a knitting needle. . .I've used chop stick! When fresh corn is in season, I'm always picking it up for the girls.

I often am thinking of the girls when I am at the grocery store. . .wondering what they might like to try. Corn is an alltime favorite though.

I use it after cleaning out the eglu and doing the bars. you dont need to rinse it off afterwards. :D

In the summer everything gets left out to dry in the sun, this time of year I usually dry it off a bit with an old towel.

Back to the subject of sweetcorn....

I buy the frozen half cobs (you get about 8 of these mini cobs in a bag - for less than a pound, I think). I thaw the cobs individually (but don't cook them) and make a hole down the middle with a big bbq skewer. I then thread my patented corn cob hanger* through from the bottom and hang it onto the run with a mini caribena.

*actually a loop of plastic coated garden wire, with the cut ends threaded through a large button and twisted together. The button stops the wire being pulled through the corn and the loop at the top allows you to attach it securely.

...Although I thought this was a brilliant invention, I must admit that the knitting needle idea is a lot simpler!!!
