koo2cat
Have bought some corn on the cob for my new girls but not sure whether I or should cook it first or leave it raw - help please. Thanking in advance! Cat
Nuggywoo
I give it raw - they love it! I stick the cobs on knitting needles and 'plant' them in the ground.

koo2cat
You are all so helpful. Have just finished giving the cube it's first clean, so will go out now and give them their corn! On another subject - does anyone here use poultry shield to clean with Once cube is clean can you just spray some on the roosting bars and leave it to dry or does it have to be rinsed off? jsbates65
it's funny to hear someone else "plants" the corn on the cob. . .you use a knitting needle. . .I've used chop stick! When fresh corn is in season, I'm always picking it up for the girls. I often am thinking of the girls when I am at the grocery store. . .wondering what they might like to try. Corn is an alltime favorite though.

Cat I use it after cleaning out the eglu and doing the bars. you dont need to rinse it off afterwards. In the summer everything gets left out to dry in the sun, this time of year I usually dry it off a bit with an old towel.
Egluntyne
I give it raw - they love it! I stick the cobs on knitting needles and 'plant' them in the ground. Clever!! I just give them tinned. Salt and sugar rinsed off first.
BarbaraJ
I always thought it was a nightmare getting anything through a raw corn on the cob though, maybe try the skewer!
Eyren
I just put it on the ground - doesn't seem to stop them removing every last kernel!

BarbaraJ
I have had trouble finding poultry shield, well unless i wanted a huge amount of it!
koo2cat
Hi BarbaraJ I got mine from the Wildfowl Trust in Honeyborne and they stock it in two sizes, a small bottle or a big carry handle bottle thingey!
Pinkybijou
Mine like dried whole sweetcorns too which I found in the hamster area of the petshop. It comes with a little clip on it to clip to the side of the run. It rarely lasts more than a couple of hours! Kris
DW
Back to the subject of sweetcorn.... I buy the frozen half cobs (you get about 8 of these mini cobs in a bag - for less than a pound, I think). I thaw the cobs individually (but don't cook them) and make a hole down the middle with a big bbq skewer. I then thread my patented corn cob hanger* through from the bottom and hang it onto the run with a mini caribena. *actually a loop of plastic coated garden wire, with the cut ends threaded through a large button and twisted together. The button stops the wire being pulled through the corn and the loop at the top allows you to attach it securely. ...Although I thought this was a brilliant invention, I must admit that the knitting needle idea is a lot simpler!!!
