bellekatz
At the moment it is the dregs of an old bag of compost with some diatom in. Didnt want to fill the litte tray too much or it just ends up being kicked out!

clucky1
They are really lovely pics - My chooks will be jealous (better not show them the pics) as they have to make do with the muddy area under our trampoline.
Reikiranf
What fab pics & what happy girls I put some compost, diatom & play sand into my potting on tray & they didn't want to know, Lulu started rolling around in the flowerbed so I tipped the mix next to her and befor long all 3 were bathing to their hearts content
superjules
Great pics. That looks like a lovely dustbath and it would match my eglu a treat - where's it from? Lovely girls - are those 2 magpies/pied sussex/daisybelles I see there? I got one in February, she started laying last week and and she's getting huge!! bellekatz
I get the litter tray from a local supplier - got a new one yesterday at a cat show in Preston (where I was judging the household pets section) so the girls got the bottom half of the old one. Yes, I have two Magpies, Gina and Pina, neither of whom have layed yet though Pina is reddening up nicely - I think she may be the first of my Italian girls to lay, with Bella the Bluebelle not far behind at this rate. Rosa, my Amber Star and Gina. the other Magpie are a ways behind them yet.
bellekatz
The litter tray is a Petmate Jumbo hooded litter tray - you can buy it as a whole thing here http://www.purrsonaltouch.com/litters.htm or I think you can buy the base by itself on Ebay. It is really good at keeping the compost inside because it has high sides.
AJuff
I saw a flatish trugtub at the garden centre and wondered whether it would be suitable as a dust bath. How deep/shallow do they need to be?
superjules
Looks good - I use a shallow tubtrug, 3 of them can get in it at a time if they are feeling sociable. Your chooks are lovely, bellekatz.
bellekatz
Four of my Five older girls are in the dustbath in this picture. with all of my Italian girls wonderng what is going on - they did get a chance to try it out later! Two of the newer girls have much redder combs and wattles than the others - I'm just hoping that if the weather continues to warm they will lay soon. Had 1 egg today from the 9 of them
bellekatz
I looked at the tubtrugs the other day, then remembered that OH had broken the side catches of the litter tray and we needed a new one so decided to do things that way instead.
